The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team will play two big Northeast-10 games this week. First, Feb. 19 they will host Pace, tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. Next, on Feb. 22 they will travel to take on Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y. Tip-off for that game is set for 1:30.
ALL-TIME VERSUS PACE
The Owls lead their all-time record against Pace, 18-15.
ALL-TIME VERSUS SAINT ROSE
SCSU has a 17-9 record all-time against Saint Rose, including the 77-62 loss to them this season.
FOUR IN A ROW FOR MCLAUGHLIN
Taylor McLaughlin was able to score in double-digits for the fourth game in a row this season, posting 21 points in the 94-76 loss to Adelphi.
ELM CITY RIVALY SPLIT THIS SEASON
With the 71-66 win over cross-town rival New Haven last week and the 81-68 loss to them on Dec. 22, the Owls and the Chargers have split their 2013-14 season series with one win apiece.
BEATHEA CONSISTENT AMONG NCAA LEADERS
Last week,
Jackie Beathea was ranked No. 10 in the nation in double-doubles and sure to be ranked again this week, adding another double-double under her belt against Le Moyne, 15 points and 11 rebounds.
FRESHMAN PHENOM
Taylor McLaughlin has had a tremendous freshman season so far, averaging a solid 12 points and seven rebounds per game. She posted 22 points against New Haven and 18 against Le Moyne last week.
TWO WITH 20 PLUS
Senior
Keshia Primo posted 24 points in 72-62 win over Merrimack and sophomore
Jackie Beathea tallied 25 points of her own, this is the first time this season two Owls have scored 20 or more points in the same contest.
STRONG FROM THE LINE
The Owls continue to be strong from the free-throw line this season. In their 2-0 week, their average from the stripe was 73%.
MCLAUGHLIN WITH NE-10 HONORS HAT TRICK
Freshmen forward
Taylor McLaughlin has been named the Northeast-10 Spalding Rookie of the Week for the third time this season for her performances against Merrimack and Assumption.
STEPPING UP, DOWN THREE
Down three key players going into the Jan. 22 game against Stonehill, the Owls stepped up big. All six players got in the game and scored six points or more.
DEENS DOES GOOD DEED
Bench player
Jacqueline Deens played some impactful minutes against Stonehill, scoring a crucial six points along with three rebounds in 79-77 thriller win on Jan. 22.
POWELL COMES OUT OF SLUMP
Danielle Powell came out of her slump by posting a career-high 15 points along with six rebounds in the 79-77 win over Stonehill on Jan. 22.
"EXTRA PRIMO-GOOD"
Senior
Keshia Primo scored a career-high 25 points, leading all scorers in the 76-68 loss to Franklin Pierce on Jan. 25.
BROWNIE POINTS FOR MCLAUGHLIN
Freshman forward
Taylor McLaughlin scored eight of her career-high 21 points in the second half versus Saint Anselm on Jan. 14. However, the most crucial four points would come in overtime. With those points, the Owls gained the lead and go on to win 89-79.
OWLS LIGHT IT UP
An impressive five players were in double figure scoring on Jan. 14 in the overtime win over Saint Anselm.
Taylor McLaughlin led the way with 21.

PERFECT FREE THROWS
The Owls went 5-for-5 from the line in the second half against Saint Anselm on Jan. 14.
GIVE HANKTON SOME BUTTER
Junior guard
Mariah Hankton has been on a roll as of late. She posted 19 points, five assists and four steals in Tuesday's win over Saint Anslem, and recorded 18 points, four assists and six rebounds in the 82-71 win over Saint Michael's on Jan. 18.
CAREER-HIGHS FOR THE FRESHMAN
Freshman
Taylor McLaughlin not only had an impressive two games last week, but posted career-high numbers. She scored 21 points against Saint Anselm on Jan. 14 and recording 12 rebounds versus Saint Michael's on Jan. 18. For her efforts, she was named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE RAMPAGE
Sophomore Jacke Beathea continued her double-double rampage with two more against Southern New Hampshire and Bentley. Beathea posted 17 points and 10 rebounds against Southern New Hampshire and 13 points and 11 rebounds against Bentley. Beathea has been named among NCAA leaders in double-doubles for six weeks in a row and will undoubtedly be back in the rankings this week.
HANKTON STEPS UP AGAINST NO. 1
Mariah Hankton stepped up big against No. 1 nationally ranked Bentley, recording 16 points to lead all Owls in scoring.
EVERYONE DESERVES A SECOND CHANCE
The Owls continue to beat their opponents in second chance points. Against Southern New Hampshire, SCSU posted 17 points off second chance opportunities as opposed to SNHU's two.
SHE'S DONE IT AGAIN
Sophomore
Jackie Beathea posted her sixth double-double of the season against Dowling, scoring 14 points along with 10 rebounds.
CONSISTENCY IS KEY

Maria Weselyj scored in double-digits for the fourth game in a row at Dowling with 14 points.
SHARP SHOOTING OWLS
The Owls as a team shot very well from three-point range against Dowling, shooting 54.5%, as well as from the line, 91.7%.
BENCH COMES THROUGH
The bench has continued to very helpful this season. In the Owls' game against Dowling, SCSU outscored the Golden Lions' bench 14-5.
HANKTON'S SEASON-HIGH
Mariah Hankton achieved her season-high in points as she tallied 17 points against Le Moyne.
LESTER MISSES BY ONE

IF AT FIRST YOU DON'T SUCCEED
In their valiant effort to defeat their cross-town rival New Haven, the Owls did an impeccable job giving themselves second chance opportunities. SCSU had 20 second chance points against the Chargers.
THE OWLS CONVERT
In the win over Post, the Owls were able to score 35 points off of the 32 turnovers they forced.
WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM THEIR FRIENDS
Southern Connecticut's bench played a vital role in the 91-82 win over Post. The Owls outscored the Post bench 21-6.

In the loss to New Haven, there were five Owls in double-figures.

JUST MISSED THE TRIPLE-DOUBLE
Sophomore
Danielle Powell came up just short of a triple-double in the win over Concordia. Powell recorded 14 points, eight assists and nine rebounds.
SPARK OFF THE BENCH HAS CAREER NIGHT
Sophomore guard
Nicole Grossbard acted as a spark off the bench for the Owls as she posted a career-high 12 points along with six assists in the Owls' win over Post.
THE SEASON OPENER
The Owls opened their 2013-14 season on the road on Nov. 9 as they traveled to Saint Thomas Aquinas. SCSU pulled out ahead of the Spartans early in the first half and never lost the lead until late in the second half.
Taylor McLaughlin led all Southern scorers with 20 points.
Maria Weselyj posted 13 points and
Jackie Beathea chipped in nine points. The Owls ended up losing by a final score of 67-62.

DEENS HAS A DAY
Sophomore Jaqueline Deens had a career-best night in the win over Concordia. She contributed seven points and six rebounds in 16 minutes of play.
OWLS IN DOUBLE DIGITS
In the contest at home against Concordia, the Owls posted a season-high 97 points. Four Owls ended the game in double figures.
Jackie Beathea recorded 20 points.
Danielle Powell posted 14 points.
Mariah Hankton chipped in 15 points, along with 12 points from
Keshia Primo.
FRESHMEN CONTINUE TO STANDOUT
Freshmen
Taylor McLaughlin and
Maria Weselyj continue to thrive on the court for the Owls. Both starters, McLaughlin and Weselyj scored in double digits against Felician as SCSU won by a final score of 85-69. Weselyj led all scorers with 19 points and McLaughlin posted 18 points and nine rebounds. Weselyj was also named the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut Female Player of the Week this week.
BEATHEA STILL ON TOP
Sophomore
Jackie Beathea has continued to be consistent this year. She has played in all 14 games and averages 13.5 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.
IN THE POLLS
The Owls were ranked as high as No. 22 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll during the course of the 2012-13 season.
CLEANING THE GLASS
Two of the top five rebounders in the Northeast-10 Conference wore Owls' uniforms last year.
Moni Smith-Ocran pulled down 10.8 rebounds per game, which was tops in the league.
Jackie Beathea averaged 9.9 rebounds a game, which was good for fourth.
LOOKING BACK ON THE YEAR THAT WAS
The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team closed the 2012-13 campaign with a 7-18 overall record. The highlights from the year included a season-opening victory over Dowling, who eventually reached the NCAA Championship game.
EXCELLENCE IN THE CLASSROOM
The Owls had seven student-athletes named to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for their work in the classroom during the 2012-13 academic year - Trinity Barnes, Jackie Deens,

Moni Smith-Ocran.
BEATHEA MAKES AN IMMEDIATE IMPACT
Jackie Beathea made her presence felt quickly during her freshman season with the Owls. She led the team in scoring (15.2 points per game) and was second with 9.9 rebounds a game. Beathea's 13 double-doubles were also a team-high.Beathea was named as both the ECAC Rookie of the Year and the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Year, in addition to a selection to the Northeast-10 All-Rookie Team.
CAPPING A FINE CAREER
Camille Fantini was the lone senior on the Southern Connecticut roster is 2012-13. A year after earning All-Conference laurels, Fantini finished the year with averages of 9.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.1 steals per game.
AMONG THE NCAA LEADERS
The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team had three players finish in the top 25 of NCAA Division II participants in three different categories.

Moni Smith-Ocran finished No. 13 in rebounds per game, pulling down 10.8 per contest.
•
Camille Fantini was among the leaders in steals per game at No. 21, averaging 3.04 per contest.
•
Jackie Beathea ranked No. 20 in double-doubles, recording 13 on the season.
• The Owls as a team also finished No. 32 in steals per game with 11.5 per contest.
EXCELLING IN THE CLASSROOM
Southern Connecticut had four student-athletes selected to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for their work in the classroom during the 2012-13 academic year.
