Beathea Scores 24 in 75-67 Loss to Saint Rose

Box Score ALBANY, N.Y. - Scoring 24 points this afternoon, Jackie Beathea (Annandale, Va.) kept the game competitive while the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team dropped its fourth game in a row to Saint Rose, 75-67. 

The Owls are now 12-13 overall, 8-11 in Northeast-10 Conference play. Saint Rose is now 11-15 overall, 6-14 in NE-10 play. 

Beathea led all scorers with 24 along with 14 rebounds, making it her 13th double-double of the season. 

Taylor McLaughlin (Colchester, Conn.) tallied 15 points. Keshia Primo (Mississagua, Ontario) recorded 10 points and seven rebounds. Sydni Lester (Teaneck, N.J.) posted 10 points as well. Danielle Powell (Pine Bush, N.Y.) chipped in eight points along with six rebounds. 

15 of Beathea's 24 came in the first half, which kept the score very close.  The Golden Knights did claim a 27-21 lead with 9:18 remaining in the half but Southern went on a 6-0 run to tie it back up at 27 with 5:51 to go. A lay-up from Beathea put Southern ahead for the first time at the 3:13 mark.The squads tied it up eight times in the first half alone including the score at halftime, 36-36. 

The Owls were able to take the lead for the first four minutes of the second half. A three-pointer from Saint Rose's Nicole Bini got the Golden Knights right back in it, taking a 44-43 lead. Play continued to be very back and forth, including four lead changes before Saint Rose began to take over with 11:22 left to play. They were ahead by as many as eight points before the Owls were able to pull it to within one point at the 3:21 mark. However, they were unable to overcome the down-to-the-wire scoring by Gabie Polce and Staci Barret from Saint Rose. The Golden Knights went on to defeat Southern 75-67. 

SCSU shot 41% from the field, 91% from the free-throw line and 23.1% from three-point range. 

The Owls will be back in action on Feb. 25 for their last home game of the season, as they host American International College. Tip-off for that game is set for 5:30 p.m.
