NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Playing his final regular season home game,
Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) set a new career-high with 35 points to help the No. 6 Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team defeat AIC 99-73.
The senior, who tallied the Owls' first 16 points, knocked down his first six shots. In front of many family members and friends, Langston, who grabbed two rebounds and dished out two assists, moved into fifth place on the all-time scoring chart (1,786 points).
At the half, the Owls' tri-captain had 25 points on 11-of-16 shooting as Southern Connecticut led 55-36.
SCSU, winners of a program record 13 straight, had five players in double figures in the contest.
Michael Mallory (Waterbury, Conn.) had 13 points,
while
Tylon Smith (Manchester, Conn.),
Jose Cruz (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and
Deshawn Murphy (Hamden, Conn.) each scored 11 points.
Cruz, who set a new-career high in the victory, also grabbed five rebounds.
Marcus Porter led AIC with 28 points and 16 rebounds.
SCSU, 24-2, 18-2 NE-10, will host the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Quarterfinal on Sunday afternoon.
