Box Score NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut State University Women's Soccer team dropped its Northeast-10 Conference opener on Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 loss at Merrimack. With the win, the Warriors improve to 3-0 (1-0 NE-10), while the Owls fall to 1-2 (0-1 NE-10).
The Owls best chance to score came in the 41st minute when freshman
Marissa Pearson (Trumbull, Conn.) beat Merrimack keeper Meghan Gulbrandsen with a shot that hit the crossbar.
The lone marker of the match came in the 61
st minute when Merrimack forward Jenna Savi put a shot on goal that was stopped by sophomore
Erica Ridella (Warwick, N.Y.), but the Warriors' Deirdre Roberts was there to bury the rebound to give Merrimack the 1-0 lead.
Gulbrandsen made seven saves for Merrimack to earn the shutout victory, while Ridella countered with three saves for the Owls.
Kieran DeBiase (Prospect, Conn.) and
Victoria Conde (Madrid, Spain) had two shots on goal each for the Southern.
