Two Games Ahead This Weekend as Men's Soccer Kicks Off 2014 Campaign

A NEW SEASON BEGINS
The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team opens the 2014 campaign with two games this weekend at the Adelphi Invitational. The Owls open against No. 8 nationally ranked LIU-Post on Thursday, followed by a contest against Mercy on Saturday evening.

ALL-TIME VS. LIU-POST
The Owls lead the all-time series versus LIU-Post by a tally of 7-0-1.

ALL-TIME VS. MERCY
The Owls lead the all-time series versus Mercy by a 4-2 margin.

IN THE PRESEASON NE-10 COACHES POLL
SCSU was picked fourth in the NE-10 preseason coaches poll. The Owls received 141 points, while Southern New Hampshire was chosen as the conference favorite.

THE CAPTAINS
Head coach Tom Lang announced that redshirt junior Tyler Naef and junior Jonas Folstad will captain the Owls this fall. This will mark the second straight year that Folstad will serve as a team captain.

SCORING PUNCH COMING BACK
The Owls are returning their top-five leading scorers from a season ago with Mads Larsen (13 points) and Daquan King (12 points) keying the charge.

A STRONG VETERAN PRESENCE
Southern Connecticut has 16 student-athletes returning from last year's squad that finished with a 10-5-1 mark.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB
The Owls welcome 10 newcomers to the squad for the 2014 season - Sabri Akter, Chae Brangman, Clarence Burnett, Gabe Diaz, Robert Gallucci, Tom Gardiner, Allen Mehmedovic, Michael Phang, Daniel Ruiz and Noah Veronier.

IN SEASON OPENERS 
The Owls are 30-9-6 in season openers.

LOOKING BACK AT 2013
The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team was ranked as high as No. 9 in the region in 2013. The Owls closed the year by qualifying for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament and totaled 10 wins.

PAIR NAMED ALL-ECAC
Sebastian Brems and Jonas Folstad were named All-ECAC for their efforts on the pitch during the 2013 season.

DUO COLLECTS ALL-REGION LAURELS
Sebastian Brems and Jonas Folstad were both recognized as All-Region performers at the conclusion of the 2013 season. Brems was honored by both the NSCAA and by Daktronics, while Folstad was tabbed for the Daktronics team.

BREMS NAMED NE-10 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR; EIGHT OWLS HONORED
Eight members of the Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team captured year-end honors from the Northeast-10 Conference. Sebastian Brems and Jonas Folstad earned First-Team honors, with Brems also being recognized as the league's Rookie of the Year.
• Mads Larsen and Stephen Sasso were named to the Second-Team, while Daquan King and Ross McGibney were named Third-Team All-Conference.
• Brems, Kevin Joslyn and Alex Soriano were all named to the NE-10 All-Rookie Team.

ON DECK
The Owls open the NE-10 portion of their schedule when the team hosts Bentley on Sept. 13 at 6 p.m.
