View Complete Game Notes as a PDFTHE WEEK AHEADThe Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team opens up Northeast-10 play with a Tuesday night showdown at Pace University before challenging Merrimack College Thursday evening in North Andover, Mass.. The Owls will wrap up the week with two non-conference matches against Bloomfield and Georgian Court Saturday afternoon. Â
A LOOK BACK AT LAST WEEK'S ACTIONThe Owls went 1-2 last week in non-conference play. SCSU opened the week with a home loss to Concordia (N.Y.), but the Owls bounced back picking up their second win of the season against Holy Family. However, SCSU ended the week with a 3-0 loss to Dominican (N.Y.) in Orangeburg, N.Y.
ITS ALL ABOUT THE OFFENSEThe Owls finished last week with a combined .116 hitting percentage as well as averaged 9.78 kills per set. SCSU also finished the week with 10 service aces. On the year, the team averages 8.22 kills per set as well 7.69 assists and 1.54 service aces per set.
ON THE DEFENSIVE SIDEJunior
Morgan Carman finished with a total of 41 digs (4.56 d/s) while the team avergaed 17.1 digs per set. On the net, the Owls 'opponents outblocked the team 14-5.
FRESHMAN SUCCESSFreshman
Alexandria Jurgens led the Owls' offense with a team-high 23 kills (2.56 k/s), three assists, four service aces, 37 digs (4.11 d/s) and three blocks. She is also named this week's CT Army National Guard/SCSU Athlete of the Week after a stellar week for the Owls.
TEAM LEADERSAfter last week,
Nicole Hauser continues to lead the team kills with 66 (2.28 k/s). Junior
Taylor Carlson and freshman Alexandria Nimz both lead the team with 111 assists. Freshman
Sean Taylor ranks first on the team with 19 total blocks.
NORTHEAST-10 WEEKLY HONORMorgan Carman and
Nicole Hauser were both selected to the Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll back on Sept. 8th.
DOUBLE TROUBLEAlexandria Jurgens posted her first career double-double (10 kills and 12 digs) in the 3-0 win against Holy Family.
Nicole Hauser recorded her first double-double of the season for the Owls with a 20 kill and 15 assist performance against Nyack. Hauser also registered her second double-double of the season against Dowling College.
ALL-TIME VERSUS PACEThe Setters hold a 23-8 edge in the all-time series with the Owls.
ALL-TIME VERSUS MERRIMACKMerrimack leads the all-time series with the Owls by a 14-8 margin.
ALL-TIME VERSUS BLOOMFIELDSCSU has a 6-0 edge in the all-time series with the Deacons.

IN THE NORTHEAST-10 PRESEASON POLLThe Owls were selected to finish 10th according to the Northeast-10 Conference coaches' poll.
LOOKING BACK AT LAST YEARThe Owls posted their sixth consecutive winning season during the 2013 campaign and closed the year with 17 wins. SCSU also narrowly missed out on a bid to the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament.

GUNNESON NAMED TO NE-10 ALL-ACADEMIC TEAMKelly Gunneson was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Volleyball All-Academic Team for her work in the classroom and on the court last fall. To be eligible for selection to the academic teams, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: participated in at least half of the team's competitions and be either a starter or significant contributor; achieved a 3.3 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution.
MCVEY EARNS ALL-CONFERENCE HONORSSenior
Lauren McVey received year-end honors from the Northeast-10 Conference, as voted on by the league's coaches. McVey was named to the Third-Team for the second consecutive season.
ON DECKThe Owls are back in action on Sept. 30th when the team takes on The College of Saint Rose. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Albany, N.Y.
