Noah Veronier (Miller Place, N.Y.) made two saves to earn his second collegiate win in as many games.
King got the Owls on the board first in the 35
th minute, after taking control of a long ball and putting a low shot past the keeper.
The Mavericks drew even early in the second half via an own goal committed by the Owls in the 54
th minute.
Markus Jacobsen (Oslo, Norway) gave the Owls the lead back with what proved to be the game-winner with a goal in the 68
th minute after taking a feed from
Daniel Ruiz (Stamford, Conn.).
King later added his second goal of the game in the 81
st minute to put Southern on top 3-1 after taking the ball from the keeper on a scramble in front of the goal. Freshman
Chae Brangman (St. George's, Bermuda) gave the Owls another insurance goal, finding the back of the net for his first collegiate goal in the 89
th minute to bring the score to 4-1.
Brandyn Rowlinson (East Islip, N.Y.) picked up an assist on the final goal.
The Owls return to action on Saturday, Sept. 13 for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup with Bentley in the Owls home opener. Game time from Jess Dow Field is scheduled for 6 p.m.
