Click here to view full resultsPOUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Southern Connecticut State men's swimming and diving team fell to Marist in a road meet on Saturday afternoon, by a score of 162-118.
The Owls took the top two spots in the 500 yard freestyle as freshman
Tyler Vander Vos (South Windsor, Conn.) won the event with a time of 4:52.61, while his teammate senior
Nick Blade (Seymour, Conn.) finished second in 5:31.07.
The Owls also swept the top three spots in the 100 yard butterfly, with sophomore
Dylan Swanepoel (Milford, Conn.) taking the top spot in 53.71 seconds. Senior
Austin McMahon (Southbury, Conn.) finished second in 57.14, and freshman
Lucas Fanucci (Malvern, Pa.) rounded out the top three with a time of 1:00.42.
Freshman
Brandon Beaudoin (Scotia, N.Y.), junior
Christopher Curtin (Wethersfield, Conn.) and senior
Marco Minnocci (Hamden, Conn.) landed the top-three spots in the 400 yard IM. Beaudoin picked up the victory in 4:21.60, Curtin came in second in 4:23.21, and Minnocci placed third with a time of 4:43.08.
The Owls also earned team points by taking the top two spots in the meet's final event, the 200 yard freestyle relay. The team of sophomore
Raymond Snyder (Waterbury, Conn.), senior
James Vaz (Naugatuck, Conn.), senior
Jared Thurston (Wallingford, Conn.) and junior
Travis Burke (Downington, Pa.) came out on top by finishing the relay in 1:31.85. The second place team of junior
Brendan Murphy (Watertown, Conn.), Minnocci, senior
Daniel Gallup (Milford, Conn.) and McMahon finished in 1:34.52.
The 200 yard medley relay saw the team of Vander Vos, Curtin, Swanepoel and Vaz place second with a time of 1:41.84.
Junior
Louis Geist (Arvada, Colo.) tallied a second place finish of 1:48.16 in the 200 yard freestyle.
Vander Vos added a third place finish in the 100 yard backstroke in 56.03 seconds. He later placed second in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 49.25 seconds.
Swanepoel also had a top-three finish, using a time of 1:58.16 to place third in the 200 yard butterfly.
Murphy recorded a second place finish of 22.78 seconds in the 50 yard freestyle.
Beaudoin added a third place finish in the 200 yard backstroke, touching in 2:02.63.
Freshman Salim Lemond (Oxford, Conn.) recorded a second place finish in the three-meter dive with a score of 208.80. Sophomore
Stephen McCusker (Waterbury, Conn.) finished right behind him in third, with a score of 207.00. Lemond also took second in the one-meter dive, earning a score of 234.15, while McCusker's score of 223.80 placed him in third.
The Owls will host their annual Senior Day at tomorrow's against Connectiuct College at Hutchinson Natatorium. The 10 seniors from both the men's and women's teams will be honored with a ceremony prior to the meet's 1 p.m. start.
