Daniel Gallup (Milford, Conn.),
Dan Elliot (Bellmore, N.Y.),
Austin McMahon (Southbury, Conn.),
Marco Minnocci (Hamden, Conn.),
James Vaz (Naugatuck, Conn.),
Alexander Polaco (Waterbury, Conn.),
Jared Thurston (Wallingford, Conn.) and
Nick Blade (Seymour, Conn.) were honored with a ceremony prior to the start of the meet, which concluded with a presentation on Hutchinson Natatorium's new video board. The Owls fell 182-106 in the contest, which also featured Merrimack College.
Sophomore
Dylan Swanepoel (Milford, Conn.) picked up the victory in the 200 yard butterfly, finishing in 1:56.58. He also had a good performance in the 100 butterfly, tallying a second place time of 52.93 seconds.
Swanepoel later added a second place finish to his credit in the 1,000 yard freestyle, touching in 9:54.64.
Junior
Louis Geist (Arvada, Colo.) and Gallup also picked up team points in the 1,000 yard freestyle. Geist took third in 10:02.83, and Gallup came in fourth in 10:11.04.
Freshman
Tyler Vander Vos (South Windsor, Conn.) followed that up by winning the next men's event, the 200 yard freestyle, taking the race in 1:43.23.
Junior
Brendan Murphy (Watertown, Conn.) also notched win for the Owls in the 50 yard freestyle, edging out his opponent in the sprint in 21.81 seconds.
Sophomore
Stephen McCusker (Waterbury, Conn.) won the one-meter diving event with a final score of 235.50. Freshman Salim Lemond (Oxford, Conn.) earned four team points with a second place finish of 203.40. Later, Lemond took home first place, and nine team points, in the three-meter dive, scoring 251.85. McCusker was awarded second with a final score of 237.37.
Geist and Gallup each turned in another solid performance in the 500 freestyle, taking second (4:47.07) and third place (4:57.23), respectively.
Sophomore
Raymond Snyder (Waterbury, Conn.) and junior
Christopher Curtin (Wethersfield, Conn.) both picked up points in the 100 yard backstroke by placing third (55.24 seconds) and fourth (55.72 seconds), respectively. Snyder also collected two team points for a fourth place finish in the 100 yard butterfly.
Thurston, Snyder and Murphy all picked up team points for their finishes in the 100 yard freestyle. Vander Vos and Curtin also turned in solid performances, earning team points in the 200 yard backstroke.
Freshman
Brandon Beaudoin (Scotia, N.Y.) turned in a fourth place time of 2:21.99 in the 200 yard breaststroke to pick up a pair of team points.
Curtin (3rd/2:02.97) and Beaudoin (4th/2:03.82) each accumulated points in the 200 yard IM.
The day's final event saw the Owls 200 yard freestyle relay team pick up four points for a second place finish. The team of Murphy, Vander Vos, Thurston and junior
Travis Burke (Downington, Pa.) combined for a time of 1:28.37.
The Owls will return to action on Friday, Jan. 16 when they travel to Albany, N.Y. to take on Saint Rose.
