Women's Basketball Continues NE-10 Conference Play with Two Games This Week

Owls take on Saint Anselm College Tuesday night at Moore Field House. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

NORTHEAST-10 PLAY CONTINUES
Following back-to-back victories against Southern N.H. and Bentley University, the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team looks to continue its two-game winning streak this week. On Tuesday, the Owls welcome Saint Anselm College for a 5:30 p.m. NE-10 showdown before traveling to Colchester, Vt. to take on Saint Michael's College at 1:30 p.m.

ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST THE HAWKS
Southern Conn. leads the all-time series against the Saint Anselm, 15-6.

LAST SEASON AGAINST THE HAWKS
On January 14, 2014, Southern Connecticut defeated Saint Anselm in overtime, 89-79. Five players recorded double-figures for the Owls.

ALL-TIME AGAINST THE PURPLE KNIGHTS
Southern Conn. leads the all-time series against Saint Michael's, 17-7.

LAST SEASON AGAINST THE PURPLE KNIGHTS
On January 18, 2014, Southern Connecticut defeated Saint Michael's 82-71 at Moore Field House. Mariah Hankton led the Owls with 18 points while Taylor McLaughlin recorded a double-double.

NORTHEAST-10 SOUTHWEST STANDINGS
Following Saturday's win over the Falcons, the Owls remain at No. 3 in the Southwest Division standings. Adelphi and New Haven claim the No. 1 and No. 2 slots, respectively.

A QUICK LOOK BACK
Southern Conn. picked up back-to-back Northeast-10 Conference wins against Southern New Hampshire and Bentley University. The Owls defeated SNHU, 62-53 and Bentley University, 65-62, to improve to 9-7 overall and 6-2 in conference play.

DOUBLE-FIGURES
Last week, the Owls had three players score in double-figures. Jackie Beathea averaged 13.5 points, Danielle Powell averaged 11.5 points and Mariah Hankton averaged 11.5 points per contest.

WESELYJ WITH THE THREE
In the win over Bentley, Maria Weselyj connected on a three-pointer with 4.7 seconds remaining in regulation to provide the margin of victory for the Owls.

A CAREER NIGHT FOR POWELL
In the 65-62 win over Bentley, Danielle Powell tied her career-high six blocks to go along with a team-high eight rebounds and nine points.

ANOTHER DOUBLE-DOUBLE FOR BEATHEA
During Wednesday's game in Manchester, N.H., Jackie Beathea recorded her 11th double-double of the season, 19 points and 14 rebounds. She currently leads the team and ranks second in Div. II in double-doubles.

AMONG NCAA LEADERS
As of 1/08, Nicole Grossbard and Jackie Beathea are ranked among the Div. II leaders. Grossbard ranks 28th averaging 5.1 assists per game while Beathea leads the NCAA in offensive rebounds per game (6.0), is second in double-doubles (11) and seventh in rebounds per game (12.3).

ITS ALL ABOUT REBOUNDING
As of 1/08, the Owls are ranked among the top 50 nationally Div. II programs in one statistical category. The Owls are No. 15 in offensive rebounds per game (17.0).

BEATHEA AMONG SCSU CAREER LEADERS
Jackie Beathea is now tied in fifth in the all-time career rebounding category with 671 rebounds and tied the single-game high of 19 rebounds on 11/19/14 at Adelphi. She also has a total of 901 career points and is 107 points away from scoring her 1,000th career point.

BENCH SUCCESS
Southern Conn. has benefitted from increased scoring output from nearly its entire roster this season. The team has totaled 1100 points this season while 344 of those points come from off the bench.

CONFERENCE HONORS
Jackie Beathea (six times), Taylor McLaughlin (three times), Danielle Powell (three times) and Mariah Hankton (twice) have all been named to the Northeast-10 Conference Honor Roll this season thus far.

NEW ARRIVALS
The Owls welcome six newcomers to the squad for the 2014-15 season - Kendra Meredith, Chloe Brinton, Paige Decker, Abby Hurlbert, Liz McKinley and Chandler Williams.

WELCOME BACK
Southern Connecticut returns nine players from last year's squad – seniors Mariah Hankton and Sydney Lester, juniors Danielle Powell, Nicole Grossbard, Jackie Beathea and Jaqueline Deens, sophomores Maria Weselyj and Taylor McLaughlinand redshirt freshman Murphy Murad.

DESALVO NOTE
Bert DeSalvo is in his first full season as head coach for the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team. Entering the season, DeSalvo had compiled a 99-26 (.792) overall record as a head coach.

IN THE POLLS
Southern Connecticut was selected seventh in the Southwest Division according to the Northeast-10 Conference preseason poll.

OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN
Senior Mariah Hankton and junior Nicole Grossbard will serve as team captains for the Owls this winter.

LOOKING BACK ON THE SEASON THAT WAS
The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team closed the regular season with 12 wins and qualified for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. The Owls had three student-athletes recognized by the league with year-end honors.

TWO NAMED TO NE-10 ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS
Jackie Beathea was selected Third Team All-Conference and freshman standout Taylor McLaughlin was named to the Northeast-10 All-Rookie Team last year.

AMONG THE NE-10 LEADERS
Amongst the returners, the Owls had two players finish in the top 10 of Northeast-10 Conference participants in three categories.
Jackie Beathea finished No. 1 in rebounds per game, pulling down 10.1 per contest.
Jackie Beathea finished No. 1 in offensive rebounds per game, pulling 4.8 per contest.
• Sydney Lester finished No. 5 in steals, tallying 2.1 per contest.

EXCELLING IN THE CLASSROOM
Southern Connecticut had nine student-athletes selected to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for their work in the classroom during the 2013-14 academic year.

ON DECK
The Owls return to action on January 21 as the team challenges Stonehill College in North Easton, Mass. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
