Owls Drop NE-10 Showdown to Adelphi University Tuesday Evening

Following the loss, the Owls fall to 6-19 on the season and 1-7 in the Northeast-10 Conference.

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's volleyball team was unable to upset Adelphi University on Tuesday evening in a Northeast-10 Conference showdown as the Owls lost in three-straight sets at the Center of Recreation and Sports. Following the loss, the Owls fall to 6-19 on the season and 1-7 in the Northeast-10.
 
Sophomore Sean Taylor (Kent, Wash.) led the Owls this evening with a team-high five kills and two blocks while sophomore Alexandra Nimz (Littleton, Colo.) collected 13 assists, two kills, a service ace, four digs and a block. Senior Morgan Carman (Mesa, Ariz.) and junior Faith Ford (New Britain, Conn.) led the Owls defensively as Carman registered 16 digs and Ford tallied four blocks, respectively.
 
Trying to disturb an unbeaten conference record, Southern Conn. took control early in set one with a 5-3 lead, but soon after Adelphi took its first lead of the match, 8-7, and never looked back. The Panthers pushed ahead and extended their lead to two, 16-14, before closing out the set with a 9-0 run, 25-14.
 
Adelphi continued its momentum into set two as the Panthers grabbed a 10-4 lead over the Owls. Southern Conn. called a timeout to re-group following an attack error by Taylor, 12-7, and the Owls managed to battle back to within three, 13-10. Southern Conn. chipped away at the Panthers' lead, but was unsuccessful as the Owls fell in set two 25-17.
 
Adelphi opened the third set with a quick 5-1 lead before Southern Conn. cut the Panthers' lead to three, 13-10, following a kill from Taylor. Adelphi pushed its lead to seven, 18-11, forcing an Owls' timeout. Southern Conn. rallied off two quick points before the hosts ended the final set and match with a 25-17 victory over the Owls.

The Owls are back in action on Friday, Oct. 23 as the team travels to Colchester, Vt. to take on Saint Michael's. Game is set for a 7 p.m. start time.
