Owls Defeat Concordia (N.Y.) in Regular Season Home Finale

Junior Faith Ford led the Owls in both kills and blocks in the 3-0 win against the Clippers.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Led by a two double-digit performances from junior Faith Ford (New Britain, Conn.) and freshman Leanna Jadus (Long Beach, Calif.), the Southern Connecticut State University defeated non-conference rival Concordia (N.Y.) College, 3-0, on Tuesday evening in the Owls' regular season home finale. Following the win, the Owls are now 7-25 on the season and the Clippers drop to 3-16 on the year.

Ford led the Owls in two different categories, 12 kills and five blocks, while Jadus registered 11 kills, three digs and two blocks. Senior Taylor Carlson (Centennial, Colo.) assisted 37 of the Owls' 46 kills as well as registered a kill, four digs and a block. Senior Morgan Carman (Mesa, Ariz.) chipped in with a team-high 19 kills and three assists.

Southern Connecticut took control of the first set as an attack error by Clippers sparked an Owls' 7-1 run to open the frame. Concordia rallied right back to within one, 7-6, off a kill from Jenny Martin, but a kill from Kelly Gunneson (Cheshire, Conn.) sparked an 8-1 run to put the Owls ahead 15-7 heading into a Clippers' timeout. Following the break, the Owls ended the set with a 10-3 run to take a 1-0 lead heading into the next set.

Concordia control the majority of the second set until an attack error by the visitors gave the Owls the point they needed to tie the set at 24-24. With the match tied at 26-26, Southern Connecticut scored the final two points, 28-26, of the set off a kill from Ford and an attack error by the visitors.

Concordia controlled the momentum early in the third set with a 3-0 lead, but not long after the Owls secured a four-point, 11-7, lead heading into a timeout called by the Clippers. From that point on, Southern Connecticut pushed its lead to nine, 22-13, before taking the final set and match 25-15.



The Owls are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 14 as the team travels to Brookville, N.Y. to take on LIU Post. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
