Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Behind a 157 yard effort on the ground from
Robert Thomas (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and a stellar defensive effort that merited a total of only 143 yards, the Southern Connecticut State University football team concluded the 2015 season with a 17-7 win at American International today.
Both teams' campaigns came to a close with identical 4-7 marks. The Owls also avenged a 44-13 loss to the Yellow Jackets back in week two of the season.
Thomas carried the ball 31 times on the day, a career-high, and had his fifth game of the season with over 100 yards.Â
Kayjuan Bynum (Springfield, Mass.) and
Jhaaron Wallace (Hartford, Conn.) both tied for the team-lead with 10 tackles.
Jamie Holbrook (Milton, Vt.) added eight tackles and a sack.
Jarred Moorer (Waterbury, Conn.) finished with five tackles and two sacks.
After a scoreless first half, the Owls finally broke through the open the scoring early in the third quarter on a 2-yard plunge from Thomas.
Evan Nelson (Madison, Conn.) added the PAT for a 7-0 lead.
The Yellow Jackets evened the score with 66 seconds left in the quarter on a 15-yard touchdown run from Willie Brown IV.
SCSU scored the only 10 points of the fourth quarter. The Owls went ahead for good when
Robert Nittolo (Hillsborough, N.J.) hit
Devante Jenkins (Carson, Calif.) on a 69-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter. Nelson followed with the PAT.
From there, the Owls defense continued to hold its ground, and Nelson added a 21-yard field goal with 2:23 remaining to close the scoring.
