Women's Basketball Prepares for Two Road Games, Opens Northeast-10 Action This Week

CONFERENCE ACTION BEGINS
After an impressive start to the 2015-16 campaign, the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball looks to remain unbeaten as the Owls open up Northeast-10 Conference play this week at Adelphi University on Wednesday evening. The Owls will then wrap up week two with a non-conference battle against Post University on Saturday afternoon.

TEAM RECORDS AND INFORMATION
•The Panthers are currently 1-1 on the season and will also open up NE-10 play against the Owls. Adelphi lost its first game of the season to NYIT, but picked up a "W" against LIU Post. 
•The Eagles are currently 0-2 on the season. Post lost both games to Daemen College and Roberts Wesleyan College. 

ALL-TIME AGAINST ADELPHI
Southern Conn. and Adelphi are tied at 9-9 in the all-time series. 

LAST SEASON AGAINST ADELPHI
•In the first meeting of the year, Adelphi defeated the Owls by the score of 81-63. Jackie Beathea led the Owls that evening with 19 rebounds and 13 points. 
•In the second meeting of the year, Adelphi defeated the Owls again by the score of 77-62. Former Owl Sydni Lester led the Owls in the lost with a team-high 13 points and 10 rebounds. 

ALL-TIME AGAINST POST
Southern Conn. leads the Eagles in the all-time series 12-0.

LAST SEASON AGAINST POST 
Thirteen different players scored at least one point for the Owls in its 100-77 victory over Post University at the Drubner Center. Jackie Beathea led the Owls in the victory with 16 points and eight rebounds.

LAST TIME OUT
Over the weekend, the Owls opened the 2015-16 campaign with a 62-53 victory over Univ. of Sciences and an 86-64 win over the Univ. of Bridgeport.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE
In the win against University of Sciences, senior Danielle Powell recorded her first double-double of the season with 17 points and 14 rebounds. 

CAREER-HIGH'S ALL AROUND
In the win against Bridgeport, senior Nicole Grossbard and sophomore Paige Decker set a new career-high in points. Grossbard recorded 20 points while Decker recorded 13 points, respectively.

GROSSBARD NAMED CT ARMY/NATIONAL GUARD/SCSU ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
For the first time this season, senior Nicole Grossbard has been named this week's CT Army/National Guard/SCSU Athlete of the Week. 

WEEK ONE LEADERS
•Senior Danielle Powell led week one in points (14.0 ppg) as well as rebounds (9.0 rpg) and blocks (1.0 bpg). 
•Senior Nicole Grossbard led week one in the assists column with 13. 

NEW ARRIVALS
The Owls welcome four newcomers to the squad for the 2015-16 season – Jana Migliaro, Amanda Pfohl, Allie Smith and Erin Ryder.

WELCOME BACK
Southern Connecticut returns 13 players from last year's squad – seniors Liz McKinley, Jacqueline Deens, Jackie Beathea, Nicole Grossbard and Danielle Powell, juniors Taylor McLaughlin and Maria Weselyj, sophomores Chandler Williams, Abby Hurlbert, Paige Decker Chloe Brinton and Kendra Meredith, red-shirt sophomore Murphy Murade.

LYNCH NOTE
Kate Lynch '08 begins her first full season as head coach for the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team. Lynch has compiled a 81-65 overall record as a head coach. Lynch remains the all-time leading scorer in Owls' history (1,779 points) and ranks fifth all-time in rebounds (650).

Southern Connecticut was selected fourth in the Southwest Division according to the Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.

TRI-CAPTAINS
Senior Jacqueline Deens, Nicole Grossbard and Danielle Powell will serve as team tri-captains for the Owls this winter.

LOOKING BACK ON THE SEASON THAT WAS
The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team closed the regular season with 14 wins and qualified for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. The Owls had one student-athlete recognized by the league with year-end honors.

BEATHEA MOVES UP IN SCSU ALL-TIME CHARTS
Afer a successful campaign last season, Jackie Beathea now leads the all-time charts in rebounds with 882 while also ranking 16th in points with 1,118.

BEATHEA NAMED ALL-NE-10
For the third year in a row, Jackie Beathea earned All-Conference honors after an impressive season as she led the Owls in scoring with 384 points and rebounds with 323. She also recorded 16 double-doubles.

AMONG THE NE-10 LEADERS
Amongst the returners, the Owls had three players finish in the top five of Northeast-10 Conference participants in four categories.
•Jackie Beathea finished No. 1 in rebounds per game, pulling down 11.1 per contest.
•Jackie Beathea finished No. 1 in offensive rebounds per game, pulling down 5.0 per contest.
•Nicole Grossbard finished No. 2 in assists per game, recording 4.9 per contest.
•Danielle Powell finished No. 2 in blocks per game, tallying 2.0 per contest.

EXCELLING IN THE CLASSROOM
Southern Connecticut had 11 student-athletes selected to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for their work in the classroom during the 2014-15 academic year.

UP NEXT
The Owls resume NE-10 Conference play on Nov. 24 as the team welcomes American International to Moore Field House. The game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
