Owls Host Georgian Court Before Resuming NE-10 Play at Le Moyne on Saturday

OWLS WRAP UP SIX GAME HOME STAND

The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball wraps up its six game homestead with a non-conference battle against Georgian Court on Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. The Owls will then resume Northeast-10 Conference play with a Southwest Division showdown at Le Moyne College on Saturday afternoon at noon.

SCOUTING GEORGIAN COURT
• The Lions enter Wednesday's contest with a record of 2-9. 
• Their second win of the season came against the Univ. of New Haven, 86-74, back on Dec. 20.
• Alliyah Berger leads Georgian Court in scoring averaging 16.6 points per game.
• As a team, the Spartans average 59.9 points a game while shooting 36.9 percent from the floor.
• Georgian Court opponents average 77.4 points a game.

ALL-TIME AGAINST GEORGIAN COURT
Southern Connecticut leads the all-time series against Georgian Court with a record of 1-0.

LAST SEASON AGAINST GEORGIAN COURT
Last season, the women's basketball team defeated Georgian Court in non-conference action, 62-40, to extend their winning streak to six games on the year. Seven players score at least three points for the Owls' offense

SCOUTING LE MOYNE COLLEGE
• As of 12/28, the Dolphins are currently 3-7 on the season and 1-4 in the league.
• Le Moyne is on a two-game losing streak and will host Mansfield University before taking on the Owls on Saturday.
• Vandell Andrade leads the Dolphins averaging 17.2 points per game while shooting 43.4 from the floor and 60.7 from the charity stripe.
• As a team, Le Moyne ranks first in the league in offensive rebounds per game with 17.7 as well as ranks second in field goal attempts and turnovers per game with 63.3 and 14.6, respectively.

ALL-TIME AGAINST LE MOYNE
Southern Connecticut leads Le Moyne in the all-time series with a record of 20-12.

LAST SEASON AGAINST LE MOYNE
Last season, Southern Connecticut went 2-0 against Le Moyne. The Owls won both games by the scores of 76-64 and 73-67.

LAST TIME OUT
Despite a 14 point effort from senior forward Danielle Powell, the women's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak come to a close in a 57-42 defeat to Saint Thomas Aquinas College

OWLS RECEIVE VOTES IN LATEST D2SIA RANKINGS
After posting a record of 1-1 in week six, the women's basketball team is among the squads receiving votes in this week's Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) East Region Women's Basketball Media Poll. Prior to week six, the Owls were ranked No. 10th in the East Region rankings.

BEATHEA CLOSING IN ON 1,000 REBOUNDS
As of Dec. 28, Jackie Beathea is only 20 rebounds away from recording her 1,000th career rebounds.

OWLS AMONG NCAA LEADERS
According to the NCAA Ranking Summary (12/28):
Jackie Beathea ranks:
• third in rebounds per game with 12.7.
• first in offensive rebounds per game with 7.0.
• second in total rebounds with 152.0.
• 16th in double-double with six.
Nicole Grossbard ranks:
• 23rd in total assists with 60.
• 36th in assists per game with 5.0.

NORTHEAST-10 LEADERS (as of 12/28)
Jackie Beathea not only leads the team, but leads the conference in rebounds averaging 12.7 a contest.
Maria Weselyj is fourth in the conference with a three-point shooting percentage of 46.7 percent. 
Nicole Grossbard is third in the league in assists averaging 5.5 a game as well as fourth in the league in steals averaging 2.2 a game.
Danielle Powell is sixth in the conference averaging 1.3 blocks per game.

BEATHEA SETS NEW SCSU SINGLE GAME-HIGH
In the win against the Eagles, Jackie Beathea set a new SCSU single game-high in rebounds with 22. She posted 10 rebounds in the first half and 12 rebounds in the second half.

NEW ARRIVALS
The Owls welcome four newcomers to the squad for the 2015-16 season – Jana Migliaro, Amanda Pfohl, Allie Smith and Erin Ryder.

WELCOME BACK
Southern Connecticut returns 13 players from last year's squad – seniors Liz McKinley, Jacqueline Deens, Jackie Beathea, Nicole Grossbard and Danielle Powell, juniors Taylor McLaughlin and Maria Weselyj, sophomores Chandler Williams, Abby Hurlbert, Paige Decker Chloe Brinton and Kendra Meredith, red-shirt sophomore Murphy Murad.

LYNCH NOTE
Kate Lynch '08 begins her first full season as head coach for the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team. Lynch has compiled a 81-65 overall record as a head coach. Lynch remains the all-time leading scorer in Owls' history (1,779 points) and ranks fifth all-time in rebounds (650).

Southern Connecticut was selected fourth in the Southwest Division according to the Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.

TRI-CAPTAINS
Senior Jacqueline Deens, Nicole Grossbard and Danielle Powell will serve as team tri-captains for the Owls this winter.

LOOKING BACK ON THE SEASON THAT WAS
The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team closed the regular season with 14 wins and qualified for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. The Owls had one student-athlete recognized by the league with year-end honors.

BEATHEA NAMED ALL-NE-10
For the third year in a row, Jackie Beathea earned All-Conference honors after an impressive season as she led the Owls in scoring with 384 points and rebounds with 323. She also recorded 16 double-doubles.

AMONG THE NE-10 LEADERS
Amongst the returners, the Owls had three players finish in the top five of Northeast-10 Conference participants in four categories.
Jackie Beathea finished No. 1 in rebounds per game, pulling down 11.1 per contest.
Jackie Beathea finished No. 1 in offensive rebounds per game, pulling down 5.0 per contest.
Nicole Grossbard finished No. 2 in assists per game, recording 4.9 per contest.
Danielle Powell finished No. 2 in blocks per game, tallying 2.0 per contest.

EXCELLING IN THE CLASSROOM
Southern Connecticut had 11 student-athletes selected to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for their work in the classroom during the 2014-15 academic year.

The Owls return to action on Jan. 6 as the team welcomes Saint Michael's College to Moore Field House for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
