Box Score PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The No. 2 ranked Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team lost to the Holy Family Tigers Monday night by a final score of 90-70.
With the loss, the Owls fall to 6-2 while the Tigers improve to 7-2.
Desmond Williams (Torrington, Conn.) had 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting (3-of-5 from three) with eight rebounds. Michael Mallory (Waterbury, Conn.) finished with 10 points and added five assists and four rebounds.
Joey Wallace (Rochester. N.Y.) totaled 13 points, a career-high, along with six rebounds and four assists.
Holy Family got out to an early lead, and HFU's Reggie Charles hit a three from 30 feet out as the shot clock expired to extend the Tiger lead to 20-9. The Tigers were able to maintain their double digit lead for the remainder of the first half. Late in the stanza, the Owls cut the deficit to 11. Southern Connecticut registered 16 offensive rebounds in the first half but trailed 49-35 at the break.
Holy Family took a 25 point lead early in the second half thanks to a 17-6 run to make it 66-41. The Owls would get as close as 14 but not any closer. They were outscored 41-35 in the second half.
Southern Connecticut returns to action on Thursday when it travels to Saint Michael's.
