Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Despite two double-double performances from senior Syndi Lester (Teaneck, N.J.) and junior 
Jackie Beathea (Annandale, Va.), the Southern Connecticut State University came up short against No. 9 Adelphi, 77-62, Saturday afternoon at Moore Field House. With the loss against the Panthers, the Owls fall to 13-11 overall and 10-6 in the Northeast-10 Conference.
Beathea picked up her 13th double-double of the season as she registered 12 points and a team-high 14 rebounds. Lester recorded her first double-double of the year with a team-high 13 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and an assist. Junior 
Nicole Grossbard (Pearl River, N.Y.) rounded out the Owls' double-digit performances with 11 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Southern Conn. built up an early 8-0 lead just three minutes into the first half, before Adelphi came back to tie the game at 10-10 at the 14:43 mark. Not soon after, the Panthers found themselves ahead by double-digits, 25-15, following a layup from Jenna Halaby.
The Owls managed to cut the Panthers' lead to within six, 25-19, after a layup from Lester, but the visitor's brought the score back up to 10, 36-26, with 3:14 left to play in the first. However, it wasn't enough as Adelphi took a 39-31 lead heading into halftime.
In the first half, Southern Conn. shot 41.9 percent (13-of-31) from the field while Adelphi only shot 40.5 percent (15-of-37) from the floor. The Owls' bench posted 13 first half points while the team managed eight fast break points.
Southern Conn. took control early opening the half with an 8-4 run to bring the score to within four, 43-39. Similar to the first half, Adelphi pushed its lead to double-digits, 57-47, after a layup from Janet Bracewell with 10:55 remaining.
Southern Conn. continued to chip away at the Panthers' double-digit lead as a good free-throw shot from 
Maria Weselyj (Marlborough, Md.) brought the score to within eight, 66-58, with 3:15 left to play. Adelphi's offense continued to run the floor grabbing a 15-point lead, 75-60, over the hosts. Weleslyj scored the final basket for the Owls as the team fell to the Panthers 77-62.
The Owls will return to Moore Field House on Monday afternoon as the team will host Merrimack College. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
