Complete Game Notes as a .PDFTHE REGULAR SEASON FINALEAfter posting a 1-2 week last week in Northeast-10 Conference play, the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team play it's last regular season game this Tuesday (Feb. 24) at American International in Springfield, Mass. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. from Henry A. Butova Gymnasium.
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE YELLOW JACKETSAmerican International leads the all-time series with the Owls, 22-15.
THIS SEASON AGAINST THE YELLOW JACKETSJackie Beathea picked up her fifth double-double of the year as the Owls defeated American International 73-66 back on Dec. 6. With less than four minutes to play, American International cut the Owls' lead to three, 57-54, but a 6-0 run by the Owls extended their lead to nine, 63-54. American International hung in tough in the final minute, but Southern Connecticut picked up its third Northeast-10 Conference win of the season.
SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS-AIC enters today's game with a 14-13 overall record and a 9-10 record in the conference.
-The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 71-63 win over Le Moyne on Saturday.
-As a team, AIC ranks second in rebound margin per game (4.3), turnovers per game (14.0), steals per game (8.3) and opponents' three-point percentage (28.7%).
-Senior Krista Ferrentino leads the team with 15.1 points on 50.1 percent shooting from the field as well as leads the team in rebounding with 8.8 per game.

A QUICK RECAPLast week, the Owls went 1-2 in Northeast-10 Conference play with back-to-back losses to Merrimack College and Pace University Monday and Wednesday night. SCSU wrapped up the week with a crucial 65-63 win over Saint Rose. The Golden Knights evened the score, 63-63, with 9.2 seconds to go, but SCSU took advantage of its last possession, as
Jackie Beathea's shot rattled around the iron and eventually went in with no time left on the clock.
LESTER AND HANKTON HONORED ON SENIOR DAYLast Saturday, seniors
Mariah Hankton and
Sydni Lester were honored on Senior Day against Saint Rose.
Sydni Lester appeared in her 52nd game for the Owls after transferring from Robert Wesleyan in 2013. Over the two years, she has averaged 8.4 points, 1.9 steals and 1.9 assists per contest.
Mariah Hankton has been a mainstay in the Owls lineup throughout her four years before suffering a season-ending injury last week. Over her four years, she averaged 9.4 points, 2.1 assists, 1.5 steals and 2.1 rebounds per contest.
DOUBLE DIGIT SCORERSFour Owls scored in double figures last week against Merrimack, Pace and Saint Rose.
Jackie Beathea led the Owls with 12. 3 points while
Maria Weselyj chipped in with 11.7 points.
Danielle Powell and
Nicole Grossbard rounded out the quartet with 10.7 and 10.0 points, respectively.
DOUBLING UPLast week,
Jackie Beathea recorded back-to-back double-doubles to move her season total to 15. At Pace, she collected 14 boards and 10 points before recording 17 points and 11 rebounds against Saint Rose.
CAREER NIGHTS ALL AROUNDJunior
Nicole Grossbard set a new career-high with 15 points on the road against Pace. On Saturday,
Kendra Meredith tied her career-high two points while
Abby Hurlbert set a new career-high five points.
MOVING UP THE LADDERJackie Beathea ranks second in the SCSU all-time career rebounding category with 803 rebounds and tied the single-game high of 19 rebounds on 11/19/14 at Adelphi. She also ranks 16th in the SCSU all-time career points with 1,079.

Danielle Powell are ranked among the Div. II leaders. Grossbard ranks 26th averaging 5.0 assists per game while Beathea ranks third in offensive rebounds per game (5.0), is 14th in rebounds per game (11.4), is 17th in double-doubles (15) and 43rd in field-goal percentage (51.4%). Powell is ranked 27th averaging 2.11 blocks per game.
OFFENSIVELY AND DEFENSIVELYAs of 2/22, the Owls are ranked among the top 50 nationally Div. II programs in two statistical categories. The Owls are 27th in offensive rebounds per game (16.0) and 47th in blocks (4.0).
BENCH SUCCESSSouthern Conn. has benefitted from increased scoring output from nearly its entire roster this season. The team has totaled 1862 points this season while 633 of those points come from off the bench.

DESALVO NOTEBert DeSalvo is in his first full season as head coach for the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team. Entering the season, DeSalvo had compiled a 99-26 (.792) overall record as a head coach.
