Jake Lieberman (Commack, N.Y.) had two hits and one RBI for the Owls batting in the second spot in the lineup, while leadoff hitter
Matt Burns (Cheshire, Conn.) collected a two-run single for his lone hit.
Jake Santamaria (Oceanside, N.Y.) threw two scoreless innings of relief for the Owls, who now sit at 13-16 (5-8 NE-10), while the Dolphins improve to 12-15 (5-4 NE-10) with the win.
Southern put runs up on the board first, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
Brandon Docimo (Stamford, Conn.) and
Greg Zullo (Branford, Conn.) used infield singles, sandwiched around an
Ethan Joyce (Exeter, N.H.) walk to load the bases with one out. After a fielder's choice cut down Docimo at the plate for the second out, Burns delivered a two-run single up the middle to score Zullo and Joyce for a 2-0 lead. Up next, Lieberman knocked a single to right center field, scoring Finnegan to put SCSU on top 3-0.
Le Moyne used two hits, a walk and a sacrifice fly to get one run back in the bottom of the second, before using four hits, one walk and two steals in the fourth inning to grab a 4-3 lead. Two RBI singles and a sac fly plated the Dolphin runs, with the eventual winning run scoring on a Brett Charbonneau sac fly.
Le Moyne's Ryan Davis went eight innings for the win, allowing just one hit after the second inning, retiring 15 of the last 16 batters he faced. He only allowed one hit and two base runners after the second inning.The Owls and Dolphins will meet again on Sunday to wrap up their three game weekend series with a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 11 a.m.
