SYRACUSE, N.Y. - A three run, ninth inning rally in game two lifted the Southern Connecticut State baseball team to a doubleheader sweep over Le Moyne on Sunday. The rally completed a 4-2 comeback victory, which followed a 5-3 win in game one. Junior Jake Lieberman (Commack, N.Y.) knocked in the winning run in game two with a suicide squeeze. Senior Nick Baviello (Orange, Conn.) delivered a game-winning, two run homer in the eighth inning of game one, on a day where he combined for four hits and four RBI in the two games. Senior Pat Egan (Aberdeen, N.J.) tossed a pair of scoreless ninth innings with three strikeouts to earn the save in each game, while Jason Harper (Saugus, Mass.) and Griffin Bremer (Higganum, Conn.) each picked up wins on the mound. The Owls improve their record to 15-16 (7-8 NE-10) with the two wins, while Le Moyne drops to 12-17 (5-6 NE-10).

Game 1
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fifth inning, Alex Wichmann (Granby, Conn.) drove a home run over the right center field fence to tie the game at one. In the sixth, Greg Zullo (Branford, Conn.) and Matt Burns (Cheshire, Conn.) led off with back-to-back hits before Lieberman drove in Zullo with a sac fly. Up next, Baviello drove in Burns with a single to right field, putting SCSU up 3-1.

The Dolphins grabbed two runs (one unearned) in the seventh to tie the game at three. In the eighth inning, Lieberman drew a one out walk, setting the table for Baviello, who drilled an opposite field home run to left field, giving Southern a 5-3 lead.

Egan entered the game with two on and nobody out in the ninth inning, and slammed the door with the help of a sac bunt, pop out and a strikeout to lock down the save.
Harper picked up his second win in as many starts, throwing seven innings and allowing two earned runs on six hits, while striking out three.

Game 2
After a solo homer in the sixth inning put Le Moyne up 1-0, Zullo evened up the score with a RBI groundout. Le Moyne once again jumped on top with a bases loaded walk in the eighth.

Down to their final three outs, the Owls mounted a rally after one out. Ethan Joyce (Exeter, N.H.) drew a walk and advanced on a Zullo single. Burns then drove a RBI single to right field to score Joyce, tying the game at 2-2.

Up next, Lieberman successfully dropped down a suicide squeeze, knocking in Zullo with what proved to be the game winning run. Baviello then drove in an insurance run with a two out single up the middle.

Bremer worked around two walks to toss a scoreless eighth inning, picking up his third win of the year. Egan made it stand up with his second save of the day, recording three quick outs in the ninth.

SCSU returns to the diamond this Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. with a NE-10 matchup at New Haven.
