Box Score GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The No. 16 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team lost its first game of the season on Saturday afternoon 3-0 to No. 11 LIU-Post.
The Owls fall to 1-1 on the young season, while LIU-Post moves to 1-0-1.
The Pioneers got off to a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute off a Jason Lampkin goal. The next goal wasn't scored until nearly 60 minutes of game time later, but Southern Connecticut only got off three shots during that time, none of them on goal.
Lampkin scored his second goal of the game in the 79th minute, one-timing a cross from the right side of the field. He added another nearly four minutes later when Owl keeper
Noah Varonier (Miller Place, N.Y.) mishandled Lampkin's shot.
SCSU was outshot 13-7 by the Pioneers, as well as six to three in shots on goal. Louis Greenway-Tambini (Nottingham, England) registered two shots on goal, in addition to scoring the only goal in Thursday's game against Dominican College.
Alex Brown (Rocky Hill, Conn.) registered his first shot on goal in a Southern Connecticut jersey.
The Owls' next game is their home opener on Saturday, September 12 at 1 p.m. They will take on the Le Moyne Dolphins.
