Women’s Basketball Hosts SNHU on Wednesday, Travels to Franklin Pierce on Saturday

The Owls host SNHU on Wednesday evening at Moore Field House beginning at 5:30 p.m.

 
OWLS CONTINUE NORTHEAST-10 PLAY
Following a 1-1 week, the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team returns to Moore Field House for a Northeast-10 Conference battle with Southern New Hampshire University before wrapping up week 10 with a road game at Franklin Pierce University.

SCOUTING SNHU
• The Penmen hold an overall record of 10-6 and a league record of 4-6, placing them fifth in the Northeast Division standings.
• Southern New Hampshire is currently on a three-game losing streak and posting a road record of 4-3.
• Freshman Kylie Lorenzen leads the Northeast-10 as well as the Penmen in field goal percentage with 55.0 and is averaging 12.2 points per game.
• On the road, So. New Hampshire is shooting 43.1 percent from the floor and averaging 62.5 points per game.
• The Penmen are fourth in the league in field goal percentage (40.6), free throws made a game (13.6), defensive rebounds a game (27.9) and total rebounds a game (41.1).
 
ALL-TIME AGAINST SNHU
Southern Connecticut leads Southern New Hampshire in the all-time series with a record of 36-23.
 
LAST SEASON AGAINST SNHU
Six different players scored at least two points, including a 19 point effort from Jackie Beathea as the women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak defeating Southern New Hampshire University, 63-52, at SNHU Field House.
 
SCOUTING FRANKLIN PIERCE
• Franklin Pierce holds an overall record of 9-5 and a league record of 6-4, placing the Ravens third in the Northeast Division standings.
•At home, Franklin Pierce is 5-1 as well as shooting 39.7 percent from the floor, 30.2 percent from long range and 79.8 percent from the free throw line.
• The Ravens are currently on a seven game winning streak.
• Franklin Pierce is averaging about 62.1 points per game while allowing its opponents to average 58.8 points per game.
• Kara Charette leads the team and ranks fourth in the league averaging 15.8 points per game.
 
ALL-TIME AGAINST FRANKLIN PIERCE

Franklin Pierce leads Southern Connecticut in the all-times series with a record of 33-16.
 
LAST SEASON AGAINST FRANKIN PIERCE
The women's basketball team played the Ravens twice last season and went 1-1, including a 70-56 loss in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference tournament. In the first meeting, the Owls defeated Franklin Pierce at home 71-63.
 
WEEK NINE RECAP
Southern Connecticut recorded a 1-1 record last week after picking up a 63-55 win over Merrimack College on Tuesday afternoon. However, the Owls fell to Saint Anselm College on Saturday by the score of 60-50.
 
LYNCH CLOSING IN ON 100 WINS
After a 1-1 week, head coach Kate Lynch is only seven games away from recording her 100th win as a head coach.
 
BEATHEA MOVES UP IN SCSU RECORD BOOK
After posting a combined 19 points last week for the Owls, senior Jackie Beathea now ranks seventh (out of 20) in the all-time points category with 1,333.
 
BEATHEA REACHES 10 DOUBLE-DOUBLES
On Saturday against the Hawks, senior Jackie Beathea recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
 
CAREER AFTERNOON AT MERRIMACK
Maria Weselyj tied her career-high five rebounds.
Murphy Murad scored a career-high 10 points while tying her career-high four rebounds and two steals.
 
CAREER AFTERNOON AT SAINT ANSELM
Paige Decker tallied a career-high seven rebounds.
Liz McKinley registered a career-high four rebounds and tied her career-high one steal.
 
OWLS AMONG NCAA LEADERS
According to the NCAA Ranking Summary (1/18):
Jackie Beathea ranks:
• first in rebounds per game with 13.2.
• first in offensive rebounds per game with 6.0.
• first in total rebounds with 237.0.
• eighth in double-double with 10.
Nicole Grossbard ranks:
• 11th in total assists with 96.
• 21st in assists per game with 5.3.
 
NORTHEAST-10 LEADERS (as of 1/18)
Jackie Beathea not only leads the team, but leads the conference in rebounds averaging 13.2 a contest.
Jackie Beathea is seventh in the league averaging 1.1 blocks per contest.
Maria Weselyj is third in the conference with a three-point shooting percentage of 42.6 percent.
Nicole Grossbard is third in the league in assists averaging 5.3 a game as well as fifth in the league in steals averaging 2.1 a game.
 
BEATHEA SETS NEW SCSU SINGLE GAME-HIGH
In the win against the Eagles, Jackie Beathea set a new SCSU single game-high in rebounds with 22. She posted 10 rebounds in the first half and 12 rebounds in the second half.
 
BEATHEA RECORDS 1,000 CAREER REBOUND
On January 2, 2016, Jackie Beathea recorded another major achievement as an Owl as she recorded her 1,000th career rebound at Le Moyne. Following this accomplishment, she now leads SCSU in the all-time records books in rebounding.
 
NEW ARRIVALS
The Owls welcome four newcomers to the squad for the 2015-16 season – Jana Migliaro, Amanda Pfohl, Allie Smith and Erin Ryder.
 
WELCOME BACK
Southern Connecticut returns 13 players from last year's squad – seniors Liz McKinley, Jacqueline Deens, Jackie Beathea, Nicole Grossbard and Danielle Powell, juniors Taylor McLaughlin and Maria Weselyj, sophomores Chandler Williams, Abby Hurlbert, Paige Decker Chloe Brinton and Kendra Meredith, red-shirt sophomore Murphy Murad.
 
LYNCH NOTE
Kate Lynch '08 begins her first full season as head coach for the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team. Lynch has compiled a 81-65 overall record as a head coach. Lynch remains the all-time leading scorer in Owls' history (1,779 points) and ranks fifth all-time in rebounds (650).

Southern Connecticut was selected fourth in the Southwest Division according to the Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.

TRI-CAPTAINS
Senior Jacqueline Deens, Nicole Grossbard and Danielle Powell will serve as team tri-captains for the Owls this winter.
 
LOOKING BACK ON THE SEASON THAT WAS
The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team closed the regular season with 14 wins and qualified for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. The Owls had one student-athlete recognized by the league with year-end honors.
 
BEATHEA NAMED ALL-NE-10
For the third year in a row, Jackie Beathea earned All-Conference honors after an impressive season as she led the Owls in scoring with 384 points and rebounds with 323. She also recorded 16 double-doubles.
 
AMONG THE NE-10 LEADERS
Amongst the returners, the Owls had three players finish in the top five of Northeast-10 Conference participants in four categories.
Jackie Beathea finished No. 1 in rebounds per game, pulling down 11.1 per contest.
Jackie Beathea finished No. 1 in offensive rebounds per game, pulling down 5.0 per contest.
Nicole Grossbard finished No. 2 in assists per game, recording 4.9 per contest.
 
EXCELLING IN THE CLASSROOM
Southern Connecticut had 11 student-athletes selected to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for their work in the classroom during the 2014-15 academic year.
 
UP NEXT
