The Owls improve to 11-3 on the year and 6-1 in the Northeast-10 while the Purple Knights fall to 2-11 and 0-8 in conference play. Southern also moves to 5-0 when scoring 100 or more points.

McCarthy got his first start of the season and it paid off big time for Southern Connecticut. He played only 17 minutes but could not be stopped near the basket as his teammates continued to find him – he was assisted on each of his seven field goals.

Saint Michael's had an early 7-6 lead and kept the score to within five throughout most of the first half until Southern was able to pull away. The Owls went on a 15-9 run over the final 5:23 of the first half to turn a five point lead into an 11 point lead going into the break. Austin Carter (Bloomfield, Conn.) performed well in the first 20 minutes, scoring 11 points on 5-for-5 from the field and grabbing four rebounds. He would finish the game with 13 points, six boards, three assists and three steals.

Southern's lead ballooned to start the second half. After a free throw by Saint Michael's Morrell Gaskins closed the gap to ten points, the Owls went on an 11-2 run to take a 62-43 lead. Two minutes later, Southern would go on a 9-0 run that included three pointers by Michael Mallory (Waterbury, Conn.) and Joey Wallace (Rochester, N.Y.). Mallory finished as the game's leading scorer with 22 points and seven assists. Wallace had a solid all-around game with 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists with three made three-pointers.

After the teams traded baskets for five minutes, Saint Michael's would spark a 9-2 run that was quickly answered by a 9-0 run by Southern to put the Owls up by 27 with three minutes remaining. That run included a jumper by Desmond Williams (Torrington, Conn.) and a layup by Eric Ross (Chicago, Ill.). Williams finished the game with 19 points, seven boards, five assists and three steals. Ross posted four points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Southern Connecticut held Saint Michael's Matt Bonds to 11 points and six rebounds, both below his season averages. Bonds entered the matchup averaging 16.3 points and 12.5 rebounds a game. The Owls also had five players score in double figures for the first time since December 12 against Pace.
