NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Despite a double-double performance from junior
Alexandria Jurgens (Cornwall, N.Y.), the Southern Connecticut State University women's volleyball team fell to Adelphi University, 3-1, on Tuesday evening in a Northeast-10 Conference showdown at Pelz Gymnasium.
CHAMBERS LEADS OWLS IN SET ONE
Freshman
Jillian Chambers (Shelby Township, Mich.) led the Owls in set one with four kills while the team hit .333 at the net to secure the 1-0 lead, 25-19.
MATCH TIED AT 1-1
Southern Connecticut opened the second set with an eight-point lead, 15-7, before the Panthers pulled away with the 25-23 come-from-behind win, after tying the set at 22-22.
JUST NOT ENOUGH
Southern Connecticut was unable to get its offense going as the Panthers extended their lead to 2-1 after winning set three 25-18.
ADELPHI WINS
The fourth and final set belonged to Adelphi who won 25-13.
STAT BREAKDOWN:
- Jurgens collected 19 assists and 12 digs to go along with six kills and two service aces.
- Sophomore Leanna Jadus (Long Beach, Calif.) was just shy of recording a double-double as the outse hitter posted nine kills and 13 digs.
- Junior Sean Taylor (Kent, Wash.) led the defensive attack with four block assists.

Southern Connecticut returns to action this Friday, Oct. 21 against Saint Michael's. Match is set for 7 p.m. at Pelz Gymnasium.
