Owls Play To A 1-1 Tie Against No. 12 Adelphi University

GARDEN CITY, N.Y.- Senior Caroline Staudle (New Windsor, N.Y.) scored the game-tying goal in the 88th minute to force overtime against No. 12 Adelphi University this evening.
 
TEAM RECORDS: SCSU (4-5-2, 3-3-1 NE-10); Adelphi (8-1-1, 5-1-1 NE-10)
 
FIRST HALF
The Owls' offense outshot Adelphi, 6-0. Both teams remained tied at 0-0 heading into the half.
 
SECOND HALF
Morgan Santoro broke the game open for Adelphi in the 65th minute, with an assisted goal from Victoria Antonino to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Staudle would score the game-tying goal with a header shot off a corner kick from senior Meghan Howard (Bethany, Conn.) to force overtime. 
 
OVERTIME
The Owls recorded just three shots in overtime, versus the Panthers' six. Both teams would end the first overtime period tied, 1-1.
 
DOUBLE OVERTIME
Both teams recorded zero shots, playing to a 1-1 draw.
 
MAGNETIC HANDS
Senior goalie Gabrielle Arruda finished with a game-high, five saves. The senior has a total of 41 saves through 11 games. Arruda has recorded back-to-back games with five saves, falling one short of her season high. Arruda has three games with six saves so far this year. 
 
THE DEFENSE
The Owls defense held the NE-10 scoring leaders (39 goals) to one goal. The only team to hold the Panthers to one goal this season was the University Bridgeport (currently ranked No. 18 in the nation).

NE-10 CONFERENCE 
With this tie, the Owls are in a four way tie in points with 10, and are tied for fourth place overall with a 3-3-1 conference record.
