Men's Swimming and Diving To Host WPI, Travel To Pace

After a few weeks away from dual-meet competition, the Southern Connecticut State University men's swimming and diving team will compete in two meets this week. They will take on WPI on Friday at 5:30 p.m and Pace Saturday at 2 p.m.

TOP FINISHERS AGAINST TCNJ
Junior Salim Lemond  placed first in the both the one meter dive (318.07) and the three meter dive (290.71). Junior Brandon Beaudoin captured first place in the 400 yard individual medley (4:22.34). Senior Raymond Snyder, junior Tyler Vander Vos, sophomore Greg Rodriguez and freshman Leonardo LaPorte placed first in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:29.68.

MAX PADRO AND TYLER VANDER VOS ONE, TWO PUNCH 
Freshman Max Padro continued his hot start with two first place finishes against Iona. Padro placed first in the 200 yard butterfly (1:58.59) and the 500 yard freestyle (4:49.13). The freshman finished second in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:03.76. Junior Tyler Vander Vos placed first in the 200 yard freestyle (1:45.53) and second in the 50 yard freestyle (22.40).

VANDER VOS STARTS JUNIOR CAMPAIGN WITH A BANG
Junior Tyler Vander Vos placed in the top-five eight times in the season-opening meet: 
- Second in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.32.
- Second in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 47.77.
- Third in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:29.88.  
- Third in the 400 yard medley with a time of 3.39.91.
- Fourth in the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 17:27.61.
- Fourth in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.16.
- Fourth in the 800 yard freesetyle with a time of 7:40.60.
- Fouth in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:20.37.

PADRO KICKS OFF SEASON WITH A HOT START
Freshman Max Padro finished in the top-five six times in his first collegiate meet:
- Third in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:50.34.
- Third in the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 4:21.04.
- Third in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:40.01.
- Third in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 3:39.91.
- Third in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:01.45.
- Fifth in the 200 yard backstoke with a time of 2:19.93.

LOOKING BACK AT LAST YEAR
The Owls won their 12th Northeast-10 Conference championship in the past 13 years. The Owls also finished third at the Metropolitan Conference Championships. Three Owls qualified for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

TEAM CAPTAINS
Seniors Raymond Snyder and Dylan Swanepoel will serve as captains for the 2016-17 season.
 
CAN THEY DO IT AGAIN?
The Owls are returning three NE-10 individual champions from last year's squad. Raymond Snyder, Dylan Swanepoel and Tyler Vander Vos combined for 14 NE-10 Championship wins last year.

FIVE EARN PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
Five members of the Southern Connecticut State University men's swimming and diving team – junior Brandon Beaudoin, freshman Max Padro,  senior Raymond Snyder, senior Dylan Swanepoel  and junior Tyler Vander Vos - have been selected to the College Swimming preseason All-Conference team.
 
RETURNING NCAA QUALIFIER
Last season, Salim Lemond competed in the NCAA Championships pre-qualifying event in both the one and three meter diving events.
   
WELCOME TO THE CLUB
The Owls welcome eight newcomers for the 2016-17 season - Noah Curtis, David Gallino, John Gaudio, Leonardo LaPorte, Davide Mendonca, Max Padro, Brennan Sanders and Jake Velleco.

Southern Connecticut is back in action on Dec. 2 for the ECAC Championships.
