Mallory Breaks Program's All-Time Scoring Record In Win Over AIC

Michael Mallory became the program's all-time leading scorer after a 30-point performance against AIC this evening.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - After a 30-point performance in a 92-87 victory over American International College this evening, senior Michael Mallory (Waterbury, Conn.) of the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team, passed Rich Radicioni as the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,938 career points and counting.

TEAM RECORDS: No. 20 SCSU (4-1, 2-0 Northeast-10); AIC (1-4, 0-3 NE-10)

TRAILING AT THE HALF
No. 20 nationally ranked SCSU trailed the Yellow Jackets at the half, 50-44. The Yellow Jackets scored 30 of its 50 first half points from three-point territory, where the Owls scored 21 of its 44 from three-point range. Mallory led the Owls in first half scoring with 17, followed by sophomores Joey Wallace (Rochester, N.Y.) and Isaiah McLeod (Cambridge, Mass.) who both had eight points each. AIC held a 14-point lead with 2:11 to play in the first half. 

OWLS' DEFENSE TIGHTENS UP
It was the Owls' defense in the second half that proved to be the winning formula, forcing the Yellow Jackets to shoot 3-of-9 from three-point range and holding them to 37 second half points. Wallace's three-pointer gave the Owls a 61-59 lead with 13:32 remaining. The free-throw game late in the second half propelled the Owls to secure its fourth win on the year and improve to 2-0 in NE-10 Conference play.
