SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior Taylor McLaughlin (Colchester, Conn.) of the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team netted her 1,000th career point in the Owls loss to Southwest Division foe American International College, 80-62, on Tuesday evening in a Northeast-10 Conference clash.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
AIC opened the game with a 7-0 run until a layup from Taylor McLaughlin (Colchester, Conn.) tied the game at 13-13 at the 1:52 mark in the first. However, the Yellow Jackets would close out the quarter with a 6-3 run, 19-16.
 
American International would continue to lead heading into the second quarter as the Yellow Jackets extended their lead to seven 29-22. However, a deep three from McLaughlin tied the game at 31-31, but the Owls would trail by two, 33-31, at the half.
 
Southern Connecticut continued to chop away at the Yellow Jackets' lead, but the Owls saw the lead grow to 16, 75-59, with 2:14 remaining in the final quarter. AIC would go on to win the NE-10 battle by the score of 80-62.
 
FIRST HALF BREAKDOWN

• McLaughlin scored 17 of the Owls' 31 points while reaching her 1,000th career point in the first quarter.
• Southern Connecticut only shot 33.3 percent from the floor compared to AIC's 46.7 percent.
