Taylor McLaughlin (Colchester, Conn.) of the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team netted her 1,000th career point in the Owls loss to Southwest Division foe American International College, 80-62, on Tuesday evening in a Northeast-10 Conference clash.
HOW IT HAPPENED
AIC opened the game with a 7-0 run until a layup from
Taylor McLaughlin (Colchester, Conn.) tied the game at 13-13 at the 1:52 mark in the first. However, the Yellow Jackets would close out the quarter with a 6-3 run, 19-16.
American International would continue to lead heading into the second quarter as the Yellow Jackets extended their lead to seven 29-22. However, a deep three from McLaughlin tied the game at 31-31, but the Owls would trail by two, 33-31, at the half.
Southern Connecticut continued to chop away at the Yellow Jackets' lead, but the Owls saw the lead grow to 16, 75-59, with 2:14 remaining in the final quarter. AIC would go on to win the NE-10 battle by the score of 80-62.
FIRST HALF BREAKDOWN
- McLaughlin scored 17 of the Owls' 31 points while reaching her 1,000th career point in the first quarter.
- Southern Connecticut only shot 33.3 percent from the floor compared to AIC's 46.7 percent.
