NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Led behind a 27-point performance from senior forward
Taylor McLaughlin (Colchester, Conn.), the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team snapped a two-game skid as the Owls defeated Southwest Division foe Le Moyne College on Saturday afternoon by a score of 74-53.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Over the first eight minutes of play, Southern Connecticut and Le Moyne battled through three ties and five lead changes until a jumper from
Imani Wheeler (Dumfries, Va.) gave the Owls their largest lead of the quarter, 15-9.
Up by four, 15-11, Southern Connecticut took over on offense and pushed its lead to double-digits, 45-30, entering halftime.
Le Moyne battled back to within seven, 52-45, with a minute remaining in the third, but the Owls would regain a nine-point lead, 54-45, heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
Southern Connecticut opened the final quarter with an 8-2 run to extend its lead back up to double-digits, 62-47. Le Moyne could only play catch-up as the Owls secured the 74-53 home win.
FIRST HALF STATS
- McLaughlin dominated on offense scoring 19 of her 27 points on 7-for-14 shooting from the field.
- Junior Murphy Murad (Storrs, Conn.) led the Owls in rebounding with eight.
- The Owls out-rebounded the Dolphins 21-19 as well as forced 10 Dolphin turnovers.
SECOND HALF STATS
- Senior Marie Weselyj (Marlborough, Conn.) tallied 12 points in the second half while shooting 5-for-8 from the floor.
- Le Moyne out-rebounded Southern Connecticut 27-19 while the Owls outscored the Dolphins 29-23.
- Both teams tallied nine turnovers.
FINAL STATS
- McLaughlin was just three rebounds shy of recording her seventh double-double of the year as the senior collected 27 points, seven rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal.
- Junior Abby Hurlbert (Thomaston, Conn.) led the Owls with four steals and nine rebounds.
- Weselyj and Murad rounded out the double-digit scorers with 19 and 13 points, respectively.
