NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Four members of the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team reached double digits as the Owls improve to 5-6 overall after defeating Concordia (N.Y.), 87-59, in a non-conference showdown on Wednesday evening at the Moore Field House.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Southern Connecticut opened the game with the quick 17-6 lead over the Clippers, following a deep three from
Abby Hurlbert (Thomaston, Conn.) before Concordia found themselves within five, 22-17, at the opening of the second quarter. It wasn't long until the Owls pushed their lead back up to double-digits and would lead by 20 at the half, 44-24, after outscoring the Clippers 22-9 in the second.
Concordia could only play catch-up over the final 10 minutes as the Owls maintained a 20-point lead to secure the non-conference win.
FIRST HALF STATS
- The Owls led the Clippers in points in the paint (16-12), points off turnovers (6-2), fast break points (10-0) and bench points (5-2).
- Offensively, the Owls shot a combined 58.1 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes.
- Senior Taylor McLaughlin (Colchester, Conn.) tallied 15 of her 24 points in the first.
SECOND HALF STATS
- Southern Connecticut's bench outscored the Clippers 23-16.
- Freshman Kiana Steinauer (Oakville, Ontario) scored all by two of her nine points in the second half.
- Four different Owls (Jana Migliaro, Maddie Brown, Chloe Brinton and Erin Ryder) scored all of their points in the second half.
FINAL STATS
- Senior Taylor McLaughlin (Colchester, Conn.) led the offensive charge with 24 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal.
- Senior Maria Weselyj (Marlborough, Conn.) and junior Paige Decker (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) each recorded 11 points, respectively.
- Hurlbert rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.
- As a team, Southern Connecticut shot 51.7% from the floor, 37% from long range and 77.3 percent from the charity stripe.
