Women's Basketball Set for Rematch with Adelphi Saturday Afternoon

The Owls face the Panthers in a NE-10 Southwest Division showdown on Saturday afternoon.

OWLS SET FOR SOUTHWEST DIVISON REMATCH

The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team returns to Moore Field House for a Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division re-match against Adelphi University on Saturday afternoon.

SCOUTING ADELPHI

• As of Wednesday, the Panthers are tied with Southern Connecticut and Le Moyne College in the Southwest Division with a league record of 7-7.
• Adelphi and Southern Connecticut have the same overall record of 14-8.
• Adelphi is coming off a double overtime victory against Assumption, 78-76.
• Sierra Clark leads the team averaging 13.7 points while shooting 46.1 percent from the floor.
• On the road, Adelphi averages 55.1 points per game as well as shooting 34.9 percent from the floor, 28.8 percent from behind the arc and 66.4 percent from the free throw line.
• The Panthers are second in the league in steals per game (8.5) and is third in the league in blocks per game (4.0) and opponent field-goal percentage (36.0 percent).

ALL-TIME AGAINST ADELPHI
Adelphi currently leads Southern Connecticut in the all-time series with a record of 10-9.

THIS SEASON AGAINST ADELPHI
The duo have already played once this year and the Owls lost by one-point, 69-68, in Garden City. Junior Taylor McLaughlin led the Owls' offensive charge with 20 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

WEEK 11 RECAP
Southern Connecticut recorded another 1-1 week in the Northeast-10 Conference with a 65-63 win against Assumption and a 60-56 loss at Bentley.
 
LYNCH CLOSING IN ON 100 WINS
After a 1-1 week, head coach Kate Lynch is only five games away from recording her 100th win as a head coach.

SCSU VS. ST. ROSE TELEVISED ON AMERICAN SPORTS NETWORK
On Febuary 6th the Southern Connecticut and the College of Saint Rose women's basketball game will be televised on the American Sports Network beginning at 2 p.m.
 
BEATHEA MOVES UP IN SCSU RECORD BOOK
After posting a combined 28 points last week for the Owls, senior Jackie Beathea remains seventh (out of 20) in the all-time points category with 1,387.
 
BEATHEA REACHES 13 DOUBLE-DOUBLES
Last week, Jackie Beathea recorded back-to-back double-doubles against Assumption and Bentley. In both games she recorded 14 points and 14 rebounds.

GROSSBARD SETS NEW CAREER-HIGH
In the win against Assumption, senior Nicole Grossbard set a new career-high 11 assists.  The last time an Owls' had 10+ assists in a game was by Anabel Perdomo back on February 24, 2004 at Le Moyne.

GROSSBARD WITH THE BUZZER BEATER
With two seconds left on the clock, senior Nicole Grossbard connected on the game-winning jumper to defeate Assumption 65-63.

MCLAUGHLIN TIES SEASON-HIGH
In the win against Assumption, Taylor McLaughlin tied her season-high three steals.
 
CAREER AFTERNOON AT BENTLEY
Maria Weselyj recorded a career-high three steals.
Jackie Beathea tied her career-high three blocks.

BEATHEA NAMED TO NE-10 HONOR ROLL
Senior forward Jackie Beathea helped the Owls to a 1-1 week as she recorded back-to-back doubles against Assumption and Bentley. In a win against Assumption, she posted 14 points and 14 rebounds before registering 14 points, 14 rebounds, an assist, three blocks and a steal in a loss against Bentley.

OWLS AMONG NCAA LEADERS
According to the NCAA Ranking Summary (1/25):
Jackie Beathea ranks:
• second in rebounds per game with 13.0.
• first in offensive rebounds per game with 6.0.
• first in total rebounds with 286.
• fifth in double-double with 13.
Nicole Grossbard ranks:
• eighth in total assists with 119.
• 17th in assists per game with 5.4.
 
NORTHEAST-10 LEADERS (as of 1/25)

Jackie Beathea not only leads the team, but leads the conference in rebounds averaging 13.0 a contest.
Jackie Beathea is eighth in the league averaging 1.0 blocks per contest.
Maria Weselyj is second in the conference with a three-point shooting percentage of 45.0 percent.
Nicole Grossbard is third in the league in assists averaging 5.5 a game as well as ninth in the league in steals averaging 1.9 a game.
Taylor McLaughlin is ninth in the league shooting 78.3 percent from the free throw line.

BEATHEA SETS NEW SCSU SINGLE GAME-HIGH
In the win against the Eagles, Jackie Beathea set a new SCSU single game-high in rebounds with 22. She posted 10 rebounds in the first half and 12 rebounds in the second half.

BEATHEA RECORDS 1,000 CAREER REBOUND
On January 2, 2016, Jackie Beathea recorded another major achievement as an Owl as she recorded her 1,000th career rebound at Le Moyne. Following this accomplishment, she now leads SCSU in the all-time records books in rebounding.

NEW ARRIVALS
The Owls welcome four newcomers to the squad for the 2015-16 season – Jana Migliaro, Amanda Pfohl, Allie Smith and Erin Ryder.

Southern Connecticut returns 13 players from last year's squad – seniors Liz McKinley, Jacqueline Deens, Jackie Beathea, Nicole Grossbard and Danielle Powell, juniors Taylor McLaughlin and Maria Weselyj, sophomores Chandler Williams, Abby Hurlbert, Paige Decker Chloe Brinton and Kendra Meredith, red-shirt sophomore Murphy Murad.

LYNCH NOTE
Kate Lynch '08 begins her first full season as head coach for the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team. Lynch has compiled a 81-65 overall record as a head coach. Lynch remains the all-time leading scorer in Owls' history (1,779 points) and ranks fifth all-time in rebounds (650).

TRI-CAPTAINS
Senior Jacqueline Deens, Nicole Grossbard and Danielle Powell will serve as team tri-captains for the Owls this winter.

LOOKING BACK ON THE SEASON THAT WAS
The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team closed the regular season with 14 wins and qualified for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. The Owls had one student-athlete recognized by the league with year-end honors.

BEATHEA NAMED ALL-NE-10
For the third year in a row, Jackie Beathea earned All-Conference honors after an impressive season as she led the Owls in scoring with 384 points and rebounds with 323. She also recorded 16 double-doubles.

AMONG THE NE-10 LEADERS
Amongst the returners, the Owls had three players finish in the top five of Northeast-10 Conference participants in four categories.
Jackie Beathea finished No. 1 in rebounds per game, pulling down 11.1 per contest.
Jackie Beathea finished No. 1 in offensive rebounds per game, pulling down 5.0 per contest.
Nicole Grossbard finished No. 2 in assists per game, recording 4.9 per contest.

EXCELLING IN THE CLASSROOM
Southern Connecticut had 11 student-athletes selected to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for their work in the classroom during the 2014-15 academic year.

The Owls return to action on Feb. 10th as the team takes on American International in Springfield, Mass.
