BOCA ROTAN, Fla. - The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team cruised past Saint Thomas Aquinas in a non-conference battle on Thursday afternoon by the score of 12-3 as part of the Owls' spring trip. The Owls recorded a total of 14 hits against the Spartans' bullpen as well as snapped a two-game losing streak. Southern Connecticut improved to 5-6-1 on the season while the Spartans fell to 10-4 following today's game.
Senior
Jason Harper (Saugus, Mass.) picked up the win for the Owls and improved to 2-0 on the season as he allowed two runs (both earned) off five hits. He also recorded three walks and three strikeouts. Freshman
Quantique White (New London, Conn.) relieved Harper in the seventh and pitched one inning giving up one run off one hit and allowing a walk and a strikeout. Sophomores
Christopher Ramos (Shelton, Conn.) and
Jake Santamaria (Oceanside, N.Y.) pitched the final two innings for the Southern Connecticut and recorded a total of one walk and two strikeouts.
Junior
Kyle Hart (North Branford, Conn.) led the Owls this afternoon with a 3-for-5 showing at the plate as well as recorded two doubles, two runs scored and a team-high four RBI while
Ethan Joyce (Exeter, N.H.) had two hits, a run and two RBI. Freshman
Mike DeMartino (New Haven, Conn.) also had a great performance at the plate as the rookie collected two hits, including a double, and two RBI. Redshirt freshman
Nick Lamberti (East Haven, Conn.) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored while
Jake Paul (Kingston, N.Y.) went 2-for-5 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI. Junior
Greg Zullo (Branford, Conn.),
Joe Uccello (Glastonbury, Conn.) and
Jake Lieberman (Commack, N.Y.) also recorded one of the Owls' 14 hits.
