Women's Basketball Battles Bentley University in NE-10 Semifinals on Thursday

The Owls battle the Falcons in the NE-10 Conference women's basketball semifinals on Thursday evening.

OWLS TRAVEL TO BENTLEY FOR NE-10 SEMIFINALS
The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team looks to continue its winning ways and extend its winning streak to six as the Owls travel to Waltham, Mass. to take on Bentley University in the Northeast-10 Conference Semifinals on Thursday evening.

REGULAR SEASON ROUND UP
Southern Connecticut wrapped up the regular season with an overall record of 18-10 and 11-9 in the conference. Following the win at Pace, the Owls tied their season-high four-game winning streak and hopes to continue it into the postseason.

SCOUTING BENTLEY
• Bentley wrapped up the regular season with a record of 21-5 and 16-5 in the Northeast Division. With that record, the Falcons earned the No. 1 seed in their division.
• Bentley is currently on a two game winning streak as the Falcons defeated Merrimack and Stonehill College.
• Jen Gemma leads the team as well as the league in points averaging 20.3 a game as well as averages a team-high 9.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game.
• Bentley leads the league in points per game (67.6), three-pointer made a game (6.7), three-point percentage (36.5) and assists per game (15.1).
• As a team, the Falcons are shooting 41.6 percent from the floor, 36.5 percent from behind the arc and 70.3 percent from the free throw line.

ALL-TIME VS. BENTLEY
At the beginning of the season, Bentley held a 22-11 edge over Southern Connecticut until Bentley moved it to 23-11 following an earlier win against the Owls.

PREVIOUSLY VS. BENTLEY
Despite four double-digit scorers, including a double-double from senior forward Jackie Beathea, the women's basketball team came up short on Saturday, Jan. 30, 60-56, against Bentley University in a Northeast-10 Conference showdown. 

STAT BREAKDOWN VS. BENTLEY
Jackie Beathea led the Owls' offense with her 14th double-double of the year with 14 points and 14 rebounds as well as chipped in with a team-high three blocks, an assist and a steal. 
• Junior Taylor McLaughlin registered 13 points and six rebounds.
•  Danielle Powell finished the afternoon with 12 points, six rebounds, a block, a steal and an assistt.
Maria Weselyj rounded out the quartet of double-digit scorers with 10 points, a rebound, three steals and an assist.

LYNCH REACHES 100TH WIN
Following the win against Assumption on Feb. 28, head coach Kate Lynch earned her 100th career win as a head coach.

• fourth in field goals made with 572.

NORTHEAST-10 LEADERS (as of 3/2):
Jackie Beathea not only leads the team, but leads the conference in rebounds averaging 13.3 a contest.
Jackie Beathea is 10th in the league averaging 1.1 blocks per contest.
Maria Weselyj leads the conference with a three-point shooting percentage of 46.3 percent.
Nicole Grossbard is second in the league in assists averaging 5.9 a game.

NEW ARRIVALS
The Owls welcome four newcomers to the squad for the 2015-16 season – Jana Migliaro, Amanda Pfohl, Allie Smith and Erin Ryder.

WELCOME BACK
Southern Connecticut returns 13 players from last year's squad – seniors Liz McKinley, Jacqueline Deens, Jackie Beathea, Nicole Grossbard and Danielle Powell, juniors Taylor McLaughlin and Maria Weselyj, sophomores Chandler Williams, Abby Hurlbert, Paige Decker Chloe Brinton and Kendra Meredith, red-shirt sophomore Murphy Murad.

LYNCH NOTE
Kate Lynch '08 begins her first full season as head coach for the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team. Lynch has compiled a 81-65 overall record as a head coach. Lynch remains the all-time leading scorer in Owls' history (1,779 points) and ranks fifth all-time in rebounds (650).

IN THE POLLS
Southern Connecticut was selected fourth in the Southwest Division according to the Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.

TRI-CAPTAINS
Senior Jacqueline Deens, Nicole Grossbard and Danielle Powell will serve as team tri-captains for the Owls this winter.

LOOKING BACK ON THE SEASON THAT WAS
The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team closed the regular season with 14 wins and qualified for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. The Owls had one student-athlete recognized by the league with year-end honors.

BEATHEA NAMED ALL-NE-10
For the third year in a row, Jackie Beathea earned All-Conference honors after an impressive season as she led the Owls in scoring with 384 points and rebounds with 323. She also recorded 16 double-doubles.

AMONG THE NE-10 LEADERS
Amongst the returners, the Owls had three players finish in the top five of Northeast-10 Conference participants in four categories.
Jackie Beathea finished No. 1 in rebounds per game, pulling down 11.1 per contest.
Jackie Beathea finished No. 1 in offensive rebounds per game, pulling down 5.0 per contest.
Nicole Grossbard finished No. 2 in assists per game, recording 4.9 per contest.

EXCELLING IN THE CLASSROOM
Southern Connecticut had 11 student-athletes selected to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for their work in the classroom during the 2014-15 academic year.
