ALBANY, N.Y. – The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team managed to snap a six game skid after splitting a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader to the College of Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon at Bob Bellizzi Field. The Owls snapped their six-game skid after defeating the Golden Knights in game one, 6-4, but the hosts took game two, 6-5, after scoring the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth.

GAME 1: So. Conn. St. 6 | Saint Rose 4

Freshman Brandon Rentas (Wallingford, Conn.) picked up the "W" for the Owls and improves to 2-3 on the season. Rentas allowed three runs on six hits while walking a batter over 6.0 innings. Sophomore Jake Santamaria (Oceanside, N.Y.) earned his second save on the year as he recorded a walk and a strikeout in the final inning.

Saint Rose jumped out to an early 3-0 lead at the end of the first before Southern Connecticut cut the lead to within one, 3-2, after scoring two runs on four hits. Lieberman began the Owls' rally with a single to right center, but despite two quick outs the Owls managed to have runners on first and second. Senior Jake DeRosa (North Haven, Conn.) collected the Owls' first RBI of the game as he allowed Lieberman to score and advanced Mike DeMartino (New Haven, Conn.) to second. Before the Owls recorded the final out of the inning, freshman Nick Lamberti (East Haven, Conn.) doubled the right center moving the runners and allowed DeMartino to cross home.

In the top of the third, Southern Connecticut took its first lead of the game, 4-3, thanks to back-to-back RBI from Lieberman and Hart, before the Owls scored another two runs in the top of the fifth, doubling their lead, 6-3.

Saint Rose managed to threaten the Owls in the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Knights tallied just one run to make the score 6-4.

GAME 2: Saint Rose 6 | So. Conn. St. 5

Paul had another impressive showing at the plate in game two as he recorded a team-high three hits while Lieberman and Lamberti collected two hits, respectively. Hart led the visitors in game two with a team-high two RBI.

Santamaria picked up the tough loss for the Owls as two hits and a walk over 0.1 of an inning.

After a scoreless two and a half innings, Saint Rose broke the silence scoring three runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead, 3-0.

The Golden Knights managed to tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth, extending its lead to 4-0, before a home run from Ethan Joyce (Exeter, N.H.), in the top of the sixth, cut the lead to three, 4-1.

Southern Connecticut struck again in the top of the eighth as the Owls added another run to cut the Golden Knights' lead in half, 4-2. With one out and a runner on first, Lamberti hit a deep triple to right center, sending the runner home before Southern Connecticut recorded the final two outs of the half inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, Saint Rose extended its lead back up to three, 5-2, after scoring a run off a sacrifice fly to center field. Southern Connecticut threatened the Golden Knights in the final inning as the Owls managed to score three runs on four hits, despite leaving two runners on base and tying the game at 5-5. Paul began the rally with a single up the middle before DeMartino found himself on first after being walked. With no outs and runners on, Lieberman advanced DeMartino to third and sent Paul home, giving the Owls their third run of the game. Southern Connecticut didn't stop there as Hart single up the middle sending the runners home and leaving him at first. Still with no outs, Hart was able to advance to second, thanks to a sac bunt from DeRosa, and advance to third off a single from Lamberti, but the rally ended due to a strikeout.

However, Saint Rose scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth off a single up the middle while bases were loaded with one out.
