GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - Senior captain
Christian Samaniego (Toronto, Ontario) connected for the game-winning goal in the 63rd minute as the Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team claimed a 2-1 win over Dominican in the season opener for both teams today. Samaniego registered a career-high three points, as he also set up Southern's first goal of the match.

Dominican struck for a goal from Fernando Gutierrez in the 17th minute, but
Sean Black (London, England) answered just over two minutes later to even the score. Black delivered a header off a set up from Samaniego.
The game stayed even for nearly 45 minutes until Samaniego's goal gave the Owls the lead for good.
Goalie
Noah Varonier (Miller Place, N.Y.) stopped four shots to earn the win.
