Volleyball Shuts Down Bloomfield, 3-0, in Home Opener

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Redshirt junior Nicole Hauser (Stevens Point, Wisc.) of the Southern Connecticut State University women's volleyball team finished the evening with a team-high 10 kills, a .421 hitting percentage, six digs and two blocks as the Owls shut down non-conference foe Bloomfield College, 3-0, in their home opener at Pelz Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.

OWLS SOAR OVER BEARS: Southern Connecticut dominated in set one as the Owls grabbed an 11-point lead, following an attack error by Bloomfield, before taking a 1-0 lead heading into set two.

OWLS BATTLE BACK TO TAKE THE "W": Southern Connecticut trailed Bloomfield for the majority of set two until a kill from Alexandria Jurgens (Cornwall, N.Y.) sparked a 6-1 run to put the Owls ahead two sets, 25-21.

OWLS SECURE THIRD SET AND MATCH: Behind a hitting percentage of .346, Southern Connecticut secured the final set , 25-15, after going up 11, 22-10, following a kill from Nimz.

STAT BREAKDOWN:
- Alexandra Nimz (Littleton, Colo.) finished the night assisting 30 of the Owls' 37 kills as well as chipped in with two kills, a service ace, seven digs and three block assists.
- Leanna Jadus (Long Beach, Calif.) was just a kill shy of recording her third double-double of the season as the outside hitter registered nine kills, 12 digs, an assist and a block assists.
- Southern Connecticut tallied 37 kills, five service aces, eight blocks, 34 assists and 48 digs.
- Bloomfield finished the night with 25 kills, one service ace, five blocks, 24 assists and 53 digs.



UP NEXT: Southern Connecticut returns to action this Friday, Sept. 16th as the Owls welcome Queens (N.Y.) College for a non-conference showdown beginning at 7 p.m. at Pelz Gymnasium.
