NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Student-athletes from several teams at Southern Connecticut State University, including the women's basketball squad, were among the numerous volunteers who took part in the Dr. Ronald Herron Southern Day of Service on Saturday. The Southern Day of Service is a day designated annually for Southern students, faculty and staff to gather in the local community and work side by side on a service project that benefits humanity. Volunteers broke up into teams and participated in various events.
This event is just one example of many community outreach events that SCSU student-athletes take part in on an annual basis. SCSU student-athletes volunteered roughly 2,000 hours of their time to numerous outreach efforts, both on-campus and in Greater New Haven, during the 2015-16 academic year.
