Men's Swimming And Diving Back In Action With Three Meets This Week

Men's swimming and diving team is set to compete in three meets this week.

The Southern Connecticut State University men's swimming and diving team will compete in three meets this week beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 10 against Marist College at 6 p.m., followed by the College of Saint Rose on Friday, Jan.13 at 2:30 p.m.and Le Moyne College on Saturday. Jan. 14 at 12:30 p.m.

LEMOND NAMED ECAC DIVER OF THE MEET
Salim Lemond placed first in the one and three-meter diving events at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Winter Championships this past weekend to earn ECAC Diver of the Meet honors.

CYR NAMED ECAC MEN'S DIVING COACH OF THE MEET
Jesse Cyr helped Salim Lemond finish first in both events at the ECAC Championships this past weekend and as a result, earned Diving Coach of the Meet laurels.

TOP FOUR FINISHES IN YALE MEET
Senior Raymond Snyder (Waterbury, Conn.) placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.81. Junior Tyler Vander Vos (South Windsor, Conn.) finished in a third place tie in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.01. Tyler Vander Vos also placed third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.46. Freshman Max Padro placed fourth in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:00.97. Senior Dylan Swanepoel (South Windsor, Conn.) placed fourth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:58.65. Freshman John Gaudio (Cheshire, Conn.) placed fourth in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:04.96. Junior Tyler Steskla (Cheshire, Conn.) placed fourth in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:16.74.

TOP FINISHERS AGAINST PACE
Freshman David Gallino finished first in the 1-meter dive (231.30) and the 3-meter dive (267.83). Junior Tyler Vander Vos finished first in the 500 yard freestyle (4.56.61), and second in the 50 yard freestyle (22.30), and in the 100 yard freestyle (47.78). Freshman Max Padro finished second in the 400 yard individual medley (4:26.11). Freshman Leonard Laporte, senior Raymond Snyder, junior Tyler Vander Vos and senior Dylan Swanepoel finished second in the 400 yard relay (3:23.76)

TOP FINISHERS AGAINST WPI
Freshman Max Padro finished first in the 100 yard freestyle (10:24.37), 200 yard butterfly (1:58.83), and second in the 200 yard individual medley (2:02.35). Senior Dylan Swanepoel finished first in the 500 yard freestyle (4:51.87), and second in the 200 yard butterfly (1:59.13). Junior Tyler Vander Vos finished second in both the 200 yard freestyle (1:47.72) and 50 yard freestyle (22.52).

TOP FINISHERS AGAINST TCNJ
Junior Salim Lemond placed first in the both the one meter dive (318.07) and the three meter dive (290.71). Junior Brandon Beaudoin captured first place in the 400 yard individual medley (4:22.34). Senior Raymond Snyder, junior Tyler Vander Vos, sophomore Greg Rodriguez and freshman Leonardo LaPorte placed first in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:29.68.

PADRO AND VANDER VOS ONE, TWO PUNCH 
Freshman Max Padro continued his hot start with two first place finishes against Iona. Padro placed first in the 200 yard butterfly (1:58.59) and the 500 yard freestyle (4:49.13). The freshman finished second in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:03.76. Junior Tyler Vander Vos placed first in the 200 yard freestyle (1:45.53) and second in the 50 yard freestyle (22.40).

VANDER VOS STARTS JUNIOR CAMPAIGN WITH A BANG
Junior Tyler Vander Vos placed in the top-five 10 times in the season-opening meet: 
- Second in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.32.
- Second in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 47.77.
- Third in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:29.88.  
- Third in the 400 yard medley with a time of 3.39.91.
- Third place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.01.
- Third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.46.
- Fourth in the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 17:27.61.
- Fourth in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.16.
- Fourth in the 800 yard freesetyle with a time of 7:40.60.
- Fouth in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:20.37.

PADRO KICKS OFF SEASON WITH A HOT START
Freshman Max Padro finished in the top-five seven times in his first collegiate meet:
- Second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:54.19. 
- Third in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:50.34.
- Third in the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 4:21.04.
- Third in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:40.01.
- Third in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 3:39.91.
- Third in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:01.45.
- Fifth in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:19.93.

LOOKING BACK AT LAST YEAR
The Owls won their 12th Northeast-10 Conference championship in the past 13 years. The Owls also finished third at the Metropolitan Conference Championships. Three Owls qualified for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

TEAM CAPTAINS
Seniors Raymond Snyder and Dylan Swanepoel will serve as captains for the 2016-17 season.
 
CAN THEY DO IT AGAIN?
The Owls are returning three NE-10 individual champions from last year's squad. Raymond SnyderDylan Swanepoel and Tyler Vander Vos combined for 14 NE-10 Championship wins last year.

FIVE EARN PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
Five members of the Southern Connecticut State University men's swimming and diving team – junior Brandon Beaudoin, freshman Max Padro,  senior Raymond Snyder, senior Dylan Swanepoel  and junior Tyler Vander Vos - have been selected to the College Swimming preseason All-Conference team.
 
RETURNING NCAA QUALIFIER
Last season, Salim Lemond competed in the NCAA Championships pre-qualifying event in both the one and three meter diving events.
