Michael Mallory (Waterbury, Conn.) tallied a game-high 24 points, but the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team dropped an 87-74 decision to Saint Anselm in the NE10 Tournament quarterfinal round today.

With the loss, the Owls remain on the bubble for an at-large spot into the NCAA Tournament field and will have to wait until the selection show on March 5.
Jerry Luckett, Jr. (Milwaukee, Wisc.) was the only other Owl in double figures with 16 points, and he also added nine rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Owls scored the first bucket of the game, but St. Anselm followed with a 12-0 run and never trailed again. The Hawks led by as many as 18 in the opening half and carried a 39-24 lead into the break.
SCSU outscored the hosts by a 50-48 margin in the second half. However, the Owls never got any closer than 13 points, yet also never trailed by more than 21.
