WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team beat cross-town rival New Haven, 2-1, to earn its first conference win of the 2017 campaign.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The match was scoreless in the first half, despite several scoring opportunities on both ends of the field. UNH opened up the scoring within the first five minutes of the second half to give the Chargers the 1-0 lead. Owls would score two minutes later off a penalty kick; freshman
Ignasi Cererols (Barcelona, Spain) scored the tying goal, the first of his collegiate career.
The game would stay deadlocked at one until the 76
th minute when the Owls team captain Louis Greenway-Tambini (Nottingham, England) scored off a cross from freshman
Kevin Van der Pol (Drammen, Buskerud, Norway) to give the Owls a 2-1 lead. That would prove to be the game winning goal and secured the Owls first conference win of the 2017 campaign.
