NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Freshman Juan Avila (Clinton, Conn.) scored the first goal of his collegiate career in the final minute of the game to push the Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team past Saint Rose at Jess Dow Field. HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After a rain delay, the game was even through 45 minutes with Southern forcing two saves from the Golden Knights goalie.
  • The game seemed destined for extra time until a cross from the left side from sophomore Kevin Van der Pol (Drammen, Buskerud, Norway) found its way to Avila who was waiting at the back post and headed the ball past the Saint Rose goalie at the 89:47 mark.
  • Junior Bailey Bassett (Andover, Conn.) recorded his fourth shutout of the season and recorded two saves in the Owls win.
  • The Owls honored its four-member senior class before tonight's game: Jhony Gonzalez, Zak Wright, Dylan Hogan and Jake Davis.
