Southern Connecticut State University football will travel to Pleasantville, N.Y. on Saturday, Oct. 27 to take on Pace in a Northeast 10 Conference match-up at Pace Stadium at 1 p.m.
 
ALL-TIME AGAINST PACE
  • Southern Connecticut has won 21 of the 22 meetings all-time against the Setters.
  • Pace's last win against Southern came in 2014 during the NE10 Championship week.
  • Southern has never lost to Pace on the road.
 
SCOUTING THE PACE SETTERS
  • Southern Connecticut and Pace are currently tied for third place in the league standings at 3-3 in the NE10 and 4-3 overall.
  • The Setters are coming off a 41-6 loss to LIU-Post last weekend, following back-to-back wins against Stonehill and Bentley.
  • Saturday's match-up will feature two of the top running backs in the NE10 in SCSU's Eli Parks and Pace's Jhalen Bien-Aime, who has totaled 783 yards at a 111.9 per-game average with five touchdowns.
 
THE LAST TIME THEY PLAYED
SCSU 34, Pace 0 (Nov. 11, 2017)
  • In arguably its finest all-around effort of the year, the Southern Connecticut State University football team capped the 2017 season with its fourth win in a row, a 34-0 shutout of Pace on Senior Day.
  • Southern's defense held Pace to just 82 yards of total offense, an 0-for-12 showing on third down, and added two interceptions.
  • Senior quarterback Raymond Catapano (Franklin Square, N.Y.) finished 12-of-18 through the air for 255 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed eight times for 34 yards and another score.
  • Fellow classmate Shaquan Hall (Newark, N.J.) posted six receptions for a career-high 128 yards and a score. Senior Isaiah Dockett (Bloomfield, N.J.) added four catches for 68 yards and a score.
  • Michael Cerisano (Newburgh, N.Y.) had 12 tackles to lead the defense, while John Strezo(Arlington, Mass.) added a pair of sacks.
 
THE OWLS' LAST TIME OUT
  • Southern Connecticut State University football rolled to a 48-21 Northeast 10 Conference win against American International College in front of over 3,000 spectators for its annual Homecoming Game at Jess Dow Field on Saturday, Oct. 20.
  • Eli Parks (Bristol, Conn.) was dominant once-again, totaling a season-high 161 yards on 17 carries and four touchdowns, including a season-best 58-yard run late in the first quarter to put the Owls ahead for good. Parks also added a 30-yard touchdown run. 
  • Matt Sanzaro (Wethersfield, Conn.) had another strong day in his second-straight start back from injury as he connected on 14-of-20 passing attempts for a season-high 205 yards and two touchdowns. Sanzaro also rambled for 43 yards on seven carries to give him 248 all-purpose yards for the afternoon.
  • Freshman Jordan Knight (Windsor, Conn.) scored his first career touchdown while Earl Myers (Uniondale, N.Y.) and Izaiah Sanders (Stamford, Conn.) also had touchdown receptions, with Sanders' tally also standing as the first of his career. 
  • Defensively, Jarred Bennett-Moorer (Bronx, N.Y.) led Southern with six tackles including 3 1/2 sacks for the day, as well as three quarterback hurries. 
  • Kyle Armour (Uniondale, N.Y.) and Kaylyn Gray (Washington, D.C.) both had interceptions for the Owls.
 
40-40 CLUB
  • With its 48-21 win against AIC last Saturday, Southern Connecticut has reached 40 points in three wins this season, including a 42-21 win against Stonehill and a 43-7 win against Saint Anselm in back-to-back games.
  • The last time SCSU scored 40+ points in consecutive games came in the 2013 season when the Owls rattled off three-straight 40+ games against Merrimack, Saint Anselm and Pace.

AMONG THE BEST
  • SCSU currently boasts the top rushing offense in the NE10, which also ranks 25th among all NCAA Division II programs, at 229.4 yards per game.
  • The Owls' running game has accumulated 1,606 yards on the ground, while averaging 5.00 yards-per-carry, and has scored 18 touchdowns.
  • The Owls' 32.6 points per game ranks 47th in the NCAA.
  • SCSU's offense line has also allowed just five sacks in five games for a 0.86 per-game average, good for the 14th fewest in NCAA Division II football.
  • Only four teams in all of D2 football hold a longer time of possession with the Owls' totaling 238.38 for a 34:05 per game average.
 
NORTHEAST 10 CONFERENCE WEEKLY AWARDS
  • Senior Eli Parks (Bristol, Conn.) was named the Northeast 10 Conference Football Player of the Week, as announced on Monday, Oct. 22, 2018. In addition to Parks, Senior defensive lineman Jared Bennett-Moorer (Bronx, N.Y.) was named to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll.
 
OUT OF THE PARK(S)
  • Eli Parks had a career day in the Owls' 48-21 win against American International on Saturday, Oct. 20 for Homecoming as he rushed for a season-high 161 yards on 17 carries with an incredible four touchdowns.
  • Parks' four tallies matched his season-opening total against Gannon when he found the ned zone four times. Included in Parks' afternoonn were a 30-yard touchdown run and 58-yard touchdown run that stands as his longest run of the season.
  • Parks has totaled 867 yards on 164 carries for a 123.9 yards per game average, good for 9th among all NCAA Division I student-athletes.
  • Parks' 867 yards from scrimmage, 123.9 yards per game and 10 touchdowns lead the Northeast Conference.
  • With Saturday's performance, Parks now has five games of 125+ yards to his credit this season.
  • Parks' 112.3 yards per game rank 16th among all NCAA Division II backs while his 674 yards from scrimmage rank 26th.
  • His 10 rushing touchdowns rank 17th nationally while his 132.14 all-purpose yards-per-game rank 36th.

SACK MASTER
  • A strong Defensive Player of the Week candidate,Jared Bennett-Moorer landed on the NE10 Weekly honor roll with his top defensive performance of the season. Bennett-Moorer harassed American Internationals' backfield all afternoon in the Owls' romp of AIC.
  • Bennett-Moorer posted a game-high nine tackles as well as 3.5 sacks.
  • In addition, he was also credited with three quarterback hurries.
  • Bennett-Moorer currently ranks second in the NE10 in sacks (7) while his 12 tackles-for-loss rank second. 
 
JHAARON "THE WALL"ACE
  • Senior inside linebacker Jhaaron Wallace (Hartford, Conn.) leads the Owls and sits third in the NE10 in total tackles (62) while also recording a sack, one forced fumble and recovery and four pass breakups.
  • Wallace's top game of the season came in the Owls' 42-21 win against Stonehill as he registered a season-high 15 tackles while also recovering a fumble and returning it for a touchdown.
