Men's Soccer Travels To Adelphi For NE10 Tournament Quarterfinals On Tuesday, Oct. 30

POSTSEASON BEGINS
The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer went 1-1 last week and clinched the No. 7 seed in the 2018 Northeast 10 Conference Tournament with a 1-0 win over Saint Rose. The Owls will travel to Garden City, N.Y. on Tuesday, October 30th to face No. 2 seeded Adelphi University in NE10 Tournament Quarterfinals.

The Panthers lead the all-time series against the Hawks, 7-4-1.

LAST TIME OUT
The Owls dropped a 3-2 decision to Saint Anselm at Melucci Field for their final game of the regular season.

THE NE10 TOURNAMENT
The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team earned the No. 7 seed in the NE10 Tournament. The Owls (9-8, 6-7 NE10) will face Adelphi (12-3-2, 10-2-1 NE10), the No. 2 seed, in a quarterfinal round game on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. at Motamed Field. SCSU is 19-15 all-time in the NE10 Tournament, with one title (2007) and five runner-up finishes.

AVILA NETS FIRST CAREER GOAL
Freshman Juan Avila netted the first goal of his collegiate career in the 1-0 win over Saint Rose on October 23rd. 

OWLS CLEAN SHEETS
The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team has recorded four clean sheets the 1-0 win over Saint Michael's, 5-0 win over Nyack, 1-0 over Merrimack and a 1-0 win against Saint Rose.

TEIXEIRA SHINES AGAINST NO. 6 SNHU
Junior Devante Teixeira scored two goals in the game against No. 6 SNHU and became the Owls leading goal scorer so far this season with four.

OWLS AMONG NE10 LEADERS
Sophomore Ignasi Perez Cererols is tied for sixth in the conference in assists (5) and is tied for 16th in the conference in points (13), junior Devante Teixeira i tied for 16th in the conference in points(13), and junior Bailey Bassett is fourth in the NE10 in save percentage (.792).

A BALANCED ATTACK
11 different Owls have tallied goals and 12 different players have registered at least one point so far this season.

BIG WEEK FOR CEREROLS 
Sophomore Ignasi Perez Cererols tallied six points in the week that included games against UNH and Bentley. He finished with five points (two goals and one assist) in the 3-2 win over New Haven. The sophomore then tallied one assist in the win against Bentley.

TENN EARNS WEEKLY HONOR ROLL SPOT
Junior Dexter Tenn was named to the NE10 weekly honor roll for his game-winning goal in the 3-1 win over Concordia.

OVERTIME THRILLER
On Sept. 2, the Owls nabbed their first win of the 2018 season with an overtime goal from sophomore Lukas Szymecki to take a 2-1 win over the University of Bridgeport.

IN SEASON OPENERS
The Owls are 34-9-2 all-time in season openers.
                     
RETURNING OWLS
The Owls have 11 returning players from the 2017 campaign - Ian Shannon, Blaise Haba, Nicolas Ruiz Colodrero, Devante Teixeira, Jhony Gonzalez, Kevin Van der Pol, Ignasi Perez Cererols, Lukas Szymecki, Dylan Hogan, Zak Wright and Noah Rattet.

BIG SHOES TO FILL
Seniors Noah Varonier and Louis Greenway Tambini started all 19 games for the Owls last season. Tambini, who earned All-America honors, led the Owls in all scoring categories as he notched 14 goals, five assists and 33 points. Varonier played all 19 games in net for the Owls, recording a 0.96 GAA, an .817 save percentage and posted a 11-4-4 record. 

WELCOME TO THE CLUB
The Owls welcome 14 newcomers to the 2018 squad - Bailey Bassett, Yan Silva, Dexter Tenn, Jonathan Foster, Daniel Utgaard, Francisco Roldan Martin, Khaleed Dawkins, Remington Maxwell, Juan Avila, Eric Amaya, Anderson Loaiza, Max Mojica, Aren Seeger and Jake Davis.

THE CAPTAINS
Southern Connecticut State University head men's soccer coach Tom Lang has announced that senior Jhony Gonzalez and junior Zak Wright will serve as team captains for the upcoming 2018 season.

LOOKING BACK AT LAST YEAR
The Owls finished last season at 11-4-4 record as well as qualified for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament and NCAA Tournament. The Owls reached the Semifinals in the Northeast-10 Tournament before losing on the road to the eventual champion, Merrimack.

The SCSU men's soccer team has been selected third in the NE10 preseason poll.
