Owls Fall to USciences 67-62

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team fell to the University of the Sciences 67-62 in non-conference action at Bobby Morgan Arena. The Owls fall to 1-4 on the year while the Devil's improve to 2-2 overall.

NOTABLE FACTS
  • Beesley recorded his third straight double-double scoring 11 points and nabbing 11 boards.
  • Zack Penn registered his first double-double of his collegiate career with 14 points and 11 rebounds shooting 2-for-5 from beyond the arc.
  • This was the third game in a row the men's basketball team had at least four players reach double figures this season.

FIRST HALF
  • Luke Beesley (Champaign, Ill.) opened the scoring as he gave the Owls a 3-0 lead early. However, the Devil's went on a 13-1 run in to lead the Owls 25-12 at the 5:17 mark.
  • Zack Penn (New Hartford, Conn.) and Kealan Ives (Providence, R.I.) led the Owls scoring 14 of their 28 points (7 each) in the first half and shooting 4-for-12 from the field. 
  • Southern went on a 11-4 run to end the half to cut the Devil's lead down to 8 points, 36-28.

SECOND HALF
  • The Owls kept their momentum going into the second half as they went on a 8-2 run in the first two minutes of the half off three-pointers from Ives and Penn cutting the Devil's lead down to two.
  • The Devil's kept their composure and had a 47-42 lead at the 13:42 mark, but the Owls surged to tie the game at 48-48 with 12 minutes remaining in the second half.
  • With three minutes left to go, the game was tie at 59-59 with 3:01 on the clock when UScience went on a 6-0 run to take a 65-59 lead with two minutes left in the game. The Devil's held off the Owls to take the 67-62 victory.

UP NEXT
The Owls are set to host Caldwell University on November 25 at James Moore Field House for a 1 p.m. start.
