NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Four Owls scored in double figures as the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team defeated Caldwell, 81-69, in a non-conference match-up at James Moore Field House. With the win, the Owls improve to 2-4 overall while Caldwell drops to 2-2 on the season.
C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, Conn.) finished with 18 points and six assists while
Luke Beesley (Champaign, Ill.) had 18 points and six rebounds.
Ulyen Coleman (Brockton, Mass.) had 14 in the Owls' win, while
Michael Mozzicato (Wethersfield, Conn.) had 13 points.

NOTABLE FACTS
- Mozzicato's 13 points, on 3-for-5 shooting from beyond the arc, were a career-high for the first-year Owl in his sixth career game. He previously tallied 10 points against Post on Nov. 10.
- Kealen Ives (Providence, R.I.) posted nine assists, besting his previous career-best of seven against Post. The senior guard also grabbed five rebounds.
- Seaforth's 18 points were also a career-best, topping his 13-point showing against Le Moyne.
- The Owls held a lead for the entire game for the second time this season. They previously dominated play in a Northeast Conference win at Saint Rose on Nov. 14.
- As a team, the Owls shot 50.9% (28-55) from the floor including 44.8% (13-29) from three-point range. The Owls also converted on 12-of-13 attempts from the free throw line.
- The Owls' 13 three-pointers matched a season-best it hit on against University of the Sciences on Nov. 11. Of their 13 three-pointers, the Owls converted on 9-of-16 in the first half. SCSU has now knocked down double-digit three-pointers in four of its six games this season.
FIRST HALF
- The Owls jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the game's first four minutes before using a 15-2 run moments later that gave the Owls a 16-point lead, 33-17.
- Seaforth hit on three-straight from long range before Mozzicato converted on back-to-back attempts to give the Owls its largest lead of the half with just under six minutes to go.
- Caldwell counterattacked with a 7-0 run of their own, attempting to cut down the Owls lead, however Southern headed into halftime with a 41-32 lead.
SECOND HALF
- The two teams went back-and-forth to open the second half, but it was the Owls who pulled away with the lead. Southern used a 12-3 run in the first five minutes of play to extend their lead to 17, the largest lead of the game.
- The Cougars went on a 10-1 run in a two-minute span to come within eight points of the Owls, 63-55, with less than seven minutes to play. Coleman pushed the Owls' lead back to double-digits, this time for good, with a three-pointer.
- Southern outscored Caldwell, 12-6, to take a 16-point lead, 77-61, with 2:01 to play, which they would hold through regulation.
