Owls Beat Queens 63-52

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team beat Queens College, 63-52, at Moore Field House for its sixth-straight win. The Owls improve to 8-5 on the year while the Knights fall to 2-11.

Isaiah McLeod (Cambridge, Mass.) recorded 19 points on 9-for-18 shooting from the floor while also adding five rebounds and two steals. Luke Beesley (Champaign, Ill.) collected his sixth double-double of the year with 13 points and 10 rebounds in 20 minutes of play. Ulyen Coleman (Brockton, Mass.) tallied 10 points and nine rebounds.
 
FIRST HALF
  • Southern outscored Queens 17-6 in the first seven minutes of play with Beesley contributing 10 points during that span. 
  • Despite neither team making a three-pointer, the Owls went into the half with a 36-23 lead.
SECOND HALF
  • The Owls extended their lead to as many as 15 points to start the second half, however the Knights responded with a 13-3 run cutting down the lead to five points, bringing the score to 49-44.
  • The Owls built up their lead back to double-digits to claim the 63-52 win.

NOTABLE FACTS
  • With his 19 points against the Knights, McLeod now stands at 1,404 on the Owls' all-time points list and trails Henry Moss '94 for 11th place with 1,416.
  • McLeod scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half. The last player to score more than 15 points in a half was Ulyen Coleman on Dec. 15th where he scored 20 points against Jefferson in the second half.
  • This was Luke Beesley's sixth double-double of the year; he has missed the Owls last two games due to injury.
  •  This is the Owls sixth-straight win. The last time the Owls won six-straight games was from Jan. 20, 2018 to Feb. 6, 2018.
