BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team cruised past LIU-Post 112-57. The Owls improve to 9-5 overall while the Pioneers drop to 0-10.
The Owls were led by
Isaiah McLeod (Cambridge, Mass.) who scored 27 points shooting 7-for-9 from beyond the arc, grabbed five rebounds, had three assists and three steals in the win.
Ulyen Coleman (Brockton, Mass.) scored 20 points shooting 5-for-10 from three-point territory, tallied three assists, two rebounds and two steals.
C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, Conn.) registered 15 points going 4-for-8 from the three-point line, nabbed seven rebounds and six assists.
Luke Beesley (Champaign, Ill.) recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Owls held the lead for the entire game outscoring the Pioneers 26-7 through the first eight minutes of play. Southern went into the half with a 57-26 lead.
- Southern kept the offensive intensity up as they extended their lead to as many as 60 points in the second frame. The Owls went on to win the contest 112-57.
NOTABLE FACTS
- With his 27 points against the Pioneers, McLeod now stands at 1,431 on the Owls all-time points list and now trails Paul "Topsy" DelGobbo 57' for 10th place with 1,507.
- McLeod hit seven three-pointers against LIU-Post the last person to hit six or more three-pointers in a game was Ulyen Coleman on Jan. 31, 2018 against UNH with nine made three's.
- Luke Beesley registered his seventh double-double on the season, he is first in the conference and ninth in the nation in double-doubles this year.
- The Owls offense scored a season-high 112 points in the win, the last time the Owls scored over 110 points was Jan. 30, 2016 against Bentley University where they scored 113 points.
- Southerns offense made 19 three-pointers the last time the Owls made 15+ three-point field goals was on Jan. 31, 2018 against UNH were they made 17.
- This is the Owls seventh-straight win. The last time the Owls won seven-straight games was from Nov. 15, 2014 to Dec. 3, 2014.
