Men's Basketball Dropped a 88-86 Contest to SNHU

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team dropped an 88-86 contest in double-overtime to Southern New Hampshire University at Stan Spirou Field House. The Owls drop to 10-6 overall and 5-3 in the conference while the Penmen improve to 9-5 overall and 5-4 in the conference.
 
Kealen Ives (Providence, R.I.) led the Owls in scoring with 24 points on 11-of-27 shooting from the floor, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Ulyen Coleman (Brockton, Mass.) scored 21 points on 7-of-18 shooting from the floor and recorded three rebounds. Isaiah McLeod (Cambridge, Mass.) registered 15 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Taurus Adams II (Milwaukee, WI.) tallied 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting, with four boards and added two assists.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was a hard-fought affair as neither team led by more than double-digits for the entire game. 
  • The Owls held the lead for the majority of the first half until the Penmen took at one-point lead at the 2:19 minute mark to bring the score to 26-25. SNHU went in to the half with a 31-27 lead over the Owls.
  • Southern outscored the Penmen in the second half 44-40, but a good layup form the Penmen with 32 seconds to go tied the score to force overtime. 
  • The Owls jumped out to a five-point lead in the first two minutes, 76-71. The Penmen counterattacked and went on a 6-1 run to force a second overtime.
  • SCSU came out to a five-point lead with 1:36 left in the game an 8-0 run gave SNHU the lead with five seconds to go giving the home team a three-point cushion. With five seconds to go Southern had one possession left but the Owls were unable to force a third overtime sealing the Penmen victory.
 
NOTABLE FACTS 
  • Kealen Ives matched a career-high in points with 24, the last time he scored 24 was against Post University on Nov. 10, 2018.
  • Luke Beesley had a team-high 12 rebounds, this is the tenth time the senior has hit double-digit rebounds of the 14 games he has played so far this year.
  • Four Owls hit double-digits in the loss; Ives (24), Coleman (21), McLeod (15) and Adams (10).
  • This is the 12th time this season that four or more players have hit double-digit points.
 
UP NEXT
The Owls are set to host Saint Anselm on Jan. 15 at Moore Field House for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
