POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Southern Connecticut State University women's swimming and diving team lost to Marist, 172-123, in a matchup in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
Jordan Thompson (Campbell Hall, N.Y.),
Morgan Fernald (Belfast, Me.),
Avery Fornaciari (Plymouth, Mass.) and
Lauren Spencer (North Haven, Conn.) all won events for the Owls, with Thompson winning the 1,000 Yard Freestyle, Fernald winning the 200 yard Freestyle, Fornaciari winning the 200 Yard Butterfly and Spencer capturing the 400 yard IM. In addition,
Alina Tucker (Bellmore, N.Y.) had second-place finishes in the 50 and 100 Yard Freestyle events. Tucker and Fernald were also part of the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team that took first place.
200 Yard Medley Relay
- SCSU's 200 Yard Medley Relay team comprised of Fernald, Tucker as well as Nicole Cislo (Wallingford, Conn.) and Emily Wolfe (Havertown, Pa.) finished third with a time of 1:54.36.
1000 Yard Freestyle
- Thompson and Rebekah Lockery (Stamford, Conn.) took the top two spots, respectively, in the 1000 Yard Freestyle event. Thompson touched at 11:06.63 while Lockery was behind her at 11:07.25.
- Emily Darroch (Oxford, Conn.) was fourth with a time of 11:28.30.
200 Yard Freestyle
- Megan Garner (Hamden, Conn.) finished fourth in the 200 Yard Freestyle at 2:05.44 while Ellie Sherry (Quinton, Va.) was fifth with a time of 2:07.31.
100 Yard Backstroke
- Fernald scored again for the Owls with a first-place finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:01.46 while Erin Leiry (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) was third at 1:03.61.
100 Yard Breaststroke
- In the 100 Yard Breaststroke event, Meaghan Spagnolo (Waterbury, Conn.) was second with a time of 1:12.78, followed by Cislo in third at 1:14.53 while Lindsey Fitzgerald (Wallingford, Conn.) finished third with a time of 1:16.04.
200 Yard Butterfly
- Fornaciari won the 200 Yard Butterfly event with a time of 2:12.48 while Wolfe finished third at 2:17.98.
50 Yard Freestyle
- Tucker, Spencer and Fernald all picked up points in the 50 Yard Freestyle with Tucker placing second at 26.12, Spencer in fourth place at 27.01 and Fernald in fifth at 27.27.
3 Meter Diving
- The diving duo of Isabel Williams (Woodbury, Conn.) and Arielle Eighmy (Milford, Conn.) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with Williams accumulating 163.80 points and Eighty grabbing 138.67.
100 Yard Freestyle
- Tucker and Fornaciari both picked up points in the 100 Yard Freestyle, with Tucker finishing in 56.56 for second place while Fornaciari was fourth at 57.35.
200 Yard Backstroke
- Garner, Sherry and Loren Wurst () filled the 3-through-5 spots, with Garner finishing at 2:17.95, Sherry at 2:20.76 and Wurst at 2:33.36.
200 Yard Breaststroke
- Leirey finished second in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:34.12 followed by Fitzgerald in fourth at 2:38.82 and Shaffer in fifth at 2:44.68.
500 Yard Freestyle
- Lockery finished fourth at 5:33.09 while Ashley Sloan (Maywood, N.J.) was fifth at 5:49.34.
100 Yard Butterfly
- Leirey posted a third-place finish at 1:03.01 while Emily Waehler (Oxford, Conn.) was fifth at 1:05.69.
1 Meter Diving
- Williams finished fourth with 172.72 points followed by Eighmy in fifth at 143.85.
400 Yard IM
- Spencer, Fitzgerald and Cislo took the top three spots in the 400 Yard IM. Spencer clocked-on at 4:46.59 followed by Fitzgerald in second place at 5:03.01 and Cislo in third at 5:05.43.
200 Yard Freestyle Relay
- Garner, Fernald, Tucker and Wolfe combined to lead SCSU in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, winning in 1:45.40.
- The team of Fornaciari, Cislo, Thompson and Darroch were second at 1:48.07.

The Owls final regular-season matchup lands on Friday, Jan. 25 when they host Bridgeport and St. Rose for a tri-meet at 1 p.m. at the Hutchinson Natatorium. The Owls will then prepare to defend their 2018 Northeast 10 Championship on Feb. 7-10 at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
