The Southern Connecticut State University football team and New Haven will meet for the Elm City Trophy when the Owls host the Chargers for its 2019 Homecoming matchup on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. at Jess Dow Field. The Owls enter the weekend after winning its last two games and stand at 2-2 in the NE10 and 2-4 overall. New Haven has lost two of its last three games and sit at 2-2 in conference play and 3-3 overall.

HOMECOMING 2019 INFORMATION

  • Tickets for Southern Connecticut football's Northeast 10 Conference tilt against Elm City Rival University of New Haven will be available for purchase at the box office at James Moore Field House on Saturday, Oct. 19 beginning at 12:30 p.m.
  • Fans are urged to purchase tickets online ahead of Saturday's Homecoming matchup.
  • Adult tickets at $10, while children (12-and-under) and seniors are $7.
  • Southern Connecticut students are always admitted free with a valid student ID.
  • Will Call tickets can be accessed in the lobby of James Moore Field House.

PARKING                              
Free parking is available in the multi-level garage, located past James Moore Fieldhouse on Wintergreen Avenue.  Parking is also available in the garage on Fitch Street, near Pelz Gymnasium.

TAILGATING                          
Tailgating will take place in Lot 9 (Brownell Parking Lot) beginning at 10:30 a.m.

BE A F.A.N.
The Southern Connecticut State University Football Alumni Network (F.A.N.) will be hosting its annual tailgate. All past SCSU football student-athletes are invited and encouraged to visit the organization's tent at Jess Dow Field.

THE OWLS' LAST TIME OUT
  • On Saturday, Oct. 12, Southern posted a 31-17 victory at Bentley in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup in Waltham, Mass.
  • Freshman quarterback Jackson Ostrowsky (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) was 28-for-36 for 405 yards and four touchdowns in top performance of his young career. 
  • Brandon Swain-Price (Stoughton, Mass.) recorded 10 receptions for 201 yards and two touchdowns to become just the sixth wide receiver in program history to hit the 200-yards mark.
  • Owls leading receiver Julian Chung (Franklin Square, N.Y.) also had 10 catches for 129 yards.
  • Defensively, Matthew Weiss (Ridge, N.Y.) had five tackles including two sacks, giving him back-to-back games with a pair of QB takedowns, while Mekhi Barnett (Stamford, Conn.) led the Owls with six tackles.

ALL-TIME AGAINST NEW HAVEN
  • The Chargers lead the all-time series against the Owls by a 23-6-1 margin.
  • UNH has won 10 of the 11 games since the Chargers joined the NE10 in 2009, including 10 in a row.

NOTES
  • Brandon Swain-Price was named the NE10 Player of the Week after his 10-catch, 201-yard, two-touchdown performance against Bentley last Saturday.
  • Swain-Price became just the sixth wide receiver in Southern Connecticut football history to post 200 yards in a game, joining Willie Epps, Jeff Cupe, Chris Ortiz, Jim Lukowiak and Ty Marshall.
  • Epps was the last receiver to reach 200 yards in a game after piling up a program-record 254 against Merrimack in 2010.
  • Swain-Price now leads the Owls with four touchdown receptions for the year after a two-touchdown day against American International on Sept. 28.
  • Freshman quarterback Jackson Ostrowsky was named the NE10 Rookie of the Week after posting the second 400-yard game in the NE10 this season in the Owls' 31-17 win at Bentley.
  • The true freshman had a career-day in just his third start of his career as he completed 28-of-36 passes for 405 yards and four touchdowns in the Owls' 31-17 win at Bentley. 
  • Ostrowsky's 405 yards in the air made him the fourth quarterback in Southern Connecticut history to throw for 400 yards in a game, joining Kevin Lynch (twice), Steve Armstrong and John Esquivel as the only players to do so. 
  • Of that exclusive group, Ostrowsky is the only freshman to accomplish the feat. Ostrowsky's four touchdowns were also a freshman record.
  • Ostrowsky is off to a great start as the Owls quarterback, posting a 2-1 record in his last three games on the strength of 69-of-107 (.645) for 954 yards and eight touchdowns.
  • Ostrowsky is averaging 318 yards per game while his eight touchdowns for the year second to Pace's Carlton Aiken's 11, despite playing three fewer games than Aiken.
  • In NE10 play, Ostrowsky leads the conference in yards (954), yards per game (318), yards per attempt (8.9), and quarterback efficiency (160.2). 
  • Julian Chung has had the hot hand for the Owls as of late as he passed the 100-yard receiving mark for the third-straight game against Bentley.
  • In his last three outings, of which Southern is 2-1, Chung has 27 catches for 396 yards for a 132 yard-per-game average.
  • For the year, Chung has 33 receptions for 471 yards, which sits second in the NE10. His 78.5 rank second in the conference.
  • With Izaiah Sanders also going for 117 yards against Frankin Pierce on Oct. 5, Southern now has back-to-back weeks with two receivers with over 100 yards.
  • Chung (78.5), and Sanders (54.2) and Swain-Price (53.3) make Southern the only team in the NE10 with receivers averaging 50-or-more yards per game.
  • Swain-Price is one of six players with four-or-more receiving touchdowns in the conference.
  • Freshman Jonmichael Bivona has accumulated 395 yards on the ground in six games for a 65.8 yards-per-game average, which both rank sixth in the conference.
  • Gavin Toth is 3-for-6 on field goal attempts and 16-for-17 on point-after attempts for 25 points, which ranks fifth in the NE10.
  • With 12 yards off of kick returns, Chung has totaled 483 all-purpose yards, which ranks ninth in the NE10.
  • Sophomore Jaylynn Cundiff, the Owls' primary return specialist and also a wide receiver, has accumulated 22 rushing yards, 132 receiving yards, as well as 56 yards on punt returns and 269 on kick-off returns for 479 all-purpose yards, which ranks 11th.
  • On defense, Matthew Weiss leads the Owls with four sacks (T6th) followed by Vance Upham with three (T8th). Rich Souffrant has totaled 2 ½ sacks for 11th place in the NE10 rankings.
  • Mekhi Barnett leads Southern with 31 tackles to date while Souffrant leads Southern with seven tackles-for-loss.
  • Upham also leads the Owls with two interceptions while Sharayad Lettelier and Miles Thomas are tied for third in the NE10 with six pass break-ups each.

UP NEXT
The Owls will be on the road for its next two games when it travels to Saint Anselm on Saturday, Oct. 26 and Stonehill on Saturday, Nov. 2 before returning home for Senior Day against Pace on Saturday, Nov. 16.
